Guest guest
Oh we talk about it, just not all the time. The average helmet costs between 3000 and 3600. There are cheaper ones out there but the top 3 brands fall into that range. For some of us, it is covered by insurance, at least to some extent, so I guess that's why we don't focus on that (I know one mom who had know idea what she was even charged because it was completely covered by her insurance). But a lot of parents struggle with the cost and are put off by it, others must figure that it's worth it I guess, so don't focus too much on it. Every once in a while someone will post about the cost though and it will be rehashed. Guest guest
Thanks for all the answers. They are in line with our experience, which is this: $3600 for a DOC band, reduced to $2500 to our insurance company, who somehow gets a special price. Of that, our insurance company pays $1500 one time per year on " durable medical equipment " , leaving us a $1000 bill... for the first band. If we need a second band then we are on our own, no help from the insurance company. Also, it's not clear what the price of that second band is. Do we still get our insurance company's rate of $2500 or do we have to pay the " walk-in " rate of $3600? I asked Cranial Technologies and haven't yet received an answer. > > At least that I can see. > > I'm new here so maybe it all got discussed long ago and now nobody > talks about money anymore. Guest guest
Our insurance wont cover the cost of a second helmet either. My son recieved his helmet on 1-26-09 and he was 4 months old. He is about to outgrow the helmet in about 2 weeks (we hope it lasts that long). No way can we afford the cost of a second helmet but we are pretty happy with the shape of his head but it hasnt helped his ears at all really. mom to Justice 5 months - starband since 1-26-09 From: nicolexling <nicolexling@...>Subject: Re: Why is there no mention of cost in anyone's post?Plagiocephaly Date: Friday, February 27, 2009, 6:58 PM Thanks for all the answers. Guest guest
How much do the Hanger bands run? Anyone know, I will find out Tuesday, but would like to be prepared for that number Thank you! Guest guest
Wooooot! Look at how popular your thread became! I mentioned the cost in one of my earlier posts when I first got here. The total cost for the Starband for my son in Canada is $1500 from my own pocket (and I submitted it to insurance... and have not heard back yet), and the other $1000 or so which includes the Occupational Therapist treatment and scanning etc... is paid for by the provincial health care system. > > At least that I can see. > > I'm new here so maybe it all got discussed long ago and now nobody > talks about money anymore. Guest guest
We have a Hanger band, it was 2500. We are in Ohio, so cost may be different depending on where you are. Insurance so far has not covered anything. We paid up front to get things started, I refused to wait. We only had to pay 1300 upfront since insurance did not cover anything. Good luck Robin > > At least that I can see. > > I'm new here so maybe it all got discussed long ago and now nobody > talks about money anymore. Guest guest
We got a Hanger cranial band from WA. The cost estimate given to us was 2500 USD. We didn't go though insurance because we are from Canada. We were asked to paid everything when we got the helmet, and that is what we did. I didn't know there could be alternative payment arrangement if insurance is not involved. It is too late for us now. We had submitted the expense to my husband's extended health insurance company, I am hoping that a portion of it will be covered. When 2500 usd is converted to canadian, the number on the credit card statement is a little shocking, it exceeds the max that my husband's insurance will cover. I will have to submit it to my insurance as well. Finger crossed. Today at lunch the waitress' jaw dropped when she heard the helmet costs 3000+ canadian.
