Guest guest
Robin... 2 weeks on is nothing!! I was on here for 3 1/2 months before I sent my online form!! I wanted to make sure it was what i really wanted and wasn't being impulsive (as I often am!). There is no rush..Dr. R isn't going anywhere..take the time you really need to learn all you can and reading this list everyday is what really helped me make up my mind. I know you have made up your mind but don't feel like you are in a time crunch..just take your time and make sure you do it all right! You can do it! Your day WILL come! As far as your PCP goes..just tell him. If he isn't in favor of this kind of thing at least you'll know and can find a new PCP. My PCP was very supportive and thought the surgery looked great. He is also following a couple people that have had RNY and said he isn't impressed and has seen some weight regained! YIKES! Take a deep breath and go to it! Holly in Illinois who is looking to pay someone to write her patient letter! Just kidding doc!!
Guest guest
Oh yeah I did forget..I did write my pcp a letter explaining what I wanted to do and why and included the paper Dr R wrote, a copy of the patient manual and several (like 15-20) emails from patients describing their surgeries and weight loss. I dropped it all of on Thursday and had an appointment on Monday with him. The nurse said she was reading the stuff too and it looked great. They are all anxious to see how I do! Guest guest
Hi Robin: Tell the appointment person UP FRONT you've just switched insurance companies and that you are in the process of choosing a new PCP. Tell them you've made the decision to have gbp, decided which procedure, and have chosen the surgeon. AND that your priority at this time is a PCP to provide local follow up. You hope that this will be the basis for a long term relationship with the PCP. Make the appointment. Follow it up with a little note saying the same thing. That way you've increased the chances that you'll only be referred to someone who is willing to support you in this endeavor. If you get into the appointment and the person tries to change your mind or bully you, you can just leave. And, I'd refuse to pay too, because they didn't honor the terms under which you made the appointment. Might work! Happy holiday weekend!!! Guest guest
If you do it that way, in writing to the doctor, there's no chance for some middle man to muck it up passing it to the doc (ever play " Whisper? " ) and you've laid out your terms, fair and square, so the doctor can't feign surprise or ignorance when you get there. Oh yeah, and contrary to popular opinion, (most) attorneys work at settlement and negotiation (i.e., non-confrontational approaches) first and foremost, but with an eye to creating a paper trail ( " evidence " ) in case it's needed in the future. Guest guest
I can't believe what I am reading. I thought I was the only one that was putting off writing this d@# & patient letter for months, it seems. I start on it, then drift off to the email group and browse thru all the letters. I am also putting off my contacts. You would think I didn't really want this surgery. Actually I writing about depression in my letter, which is the next to last part of the letter. Then when I think about my contacts, I think---I don't know what he is looking for in contacts. Can I just take some of these emails that have not been written just to me but to the group, but are very informative and use them?????? Duhh !! Help !!! Guest guest
Hi Betty, When I was ready to find contacts, I went to the online database on Dr. R's web site and searched for patients from Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin. As I found them, I e-mailed each of them a message stating that I needed contact for the process and asked five or six questions. I think I mailed out about 15 and got 7 back in reply. It was a good mix of people who had recently had the surgery and some who had it a while back. There were even people who answered who had complications - so I think I learned a lot about the surgery. We also had an Illinois support group luncheon and there were 6 post ops there, so I asked questions and documented our conversations and used them as personal contacts too. - waiting in Chicago Re: Need inspiration!!! > > > >I know how you feel..I have been putting off the patient letter forever!!! > I > >have to do it SOON!!!! > > > >This message is from the Mini-Gastric Bypass Mailing List at Onelist.com > >Please visit our web site at http://clos.net > >Get the Patient Manual at http://clos.net/get_patient_manual.htm > > > >To Unsubscribe Send and Email to: > MiniGastricBypass-unsubscribe (AT) egroups (DOT) com > > > > > > > This message is from the Mini-Gastric Bypass Mailing List at Onelist.com > Please visit our web site at http://clos.net > Get the Patient Manual at http://clos.net/get_patient_manual.htm > > To Unsubscribe Send and Email to: MiniGastricBypass-unsubscribe (AT) egroups (DOT) com > >
Guest guest
Your patient contacts should be actual exchanges you've had with patients, where you have asked questions you want the answers to, so you better understand the process. Email contacts are fine. On Dr. R.'s page, he has about 250 email addresses you can click on and send an email: http://www.clos.net/email_patients.htm Then on my website, the MGB Family Photos and Stories also has email addresses: http://www.fourlane.com/mgb/mgbfam.htm Send an email to about 20-30 people or until you get 10 replies. I asked things like: What was your starting weight? What is your height? What is your current weight? What was your MGB Surgyer date? Did you have any complications? What advice do you have for somebody who is pre-op? What is the best part of having had the MGB? What is the worst part of having had the MGB? You'll get some great answers. Then for the part to give Dr. R., just make up a list of the names, email addresses, and a little bit of what you heard from each one, to show you've made the contacts. To me, this was the most interesting part of the preparation process -- hearing from people who had already done it and what they advised. You'd be amazed at the great tips you'll get, from what to take with you to the hospital, to smoothie recipes, tips on eating, you name it! Best wishes for a speedy, safe, and happy journey to the other side, Betty! Kind regards, and Betty Harrill wrote: > > I can't believe what I am reading. When I printed the Physical exam form it is LONG and detailed..... does my PCP need to fill it out entirely?
