Guest guest
Yes, for some kids pecan, hazelnut, macadamia, and cashew are better tolerated... although cashews are the starchiest of the nuts and Elaine did not like us using cashews for beginners... and even later, suggested using cashews in small amounts. Nut butters are generally easier on the gut... because the nuts are ground into much smaller particles than in flour or meal, so butters are good to start with. It's impossible for me to say whether his sleeping issues are due to peanuts or almonds. You're near the 3 month mark, and many kids go through additional die-off at this point... so if this sleep issue is new (sorry, I can't keep everyone straight), it might be a temporary die-off phase. Patti Pecan vs. almond Recently, someone commented that the name " pecan bread " came about because many of the kids caouldn't tolerate almond. So my assumption is that the kids could tolerate pecans in the form of butter, meal, and flour. Is this an accurate assumption? Is it possible that while iel appears to have these sleeping issues when he consumes almond and peanut butters, he might be able to eat pecan products with no problems? If so, I'll pick up some pecan butter at the health food store today. Thanks for your help. Meleah scd 05/06 iel 3yrs., asd Ethan 5yrs., Mark 1yr. Guest guest
Patty, I am going to pick up some pecan butter today. I am now suspicious that the crying/screaming in the night is due to me giving him raw fruits...some with the pealing still on...before he could tolerate them. On Thursday and Friday, I gave iel cooked, pealed peaches and apples. No issues Thursday or Friday night. I hadn't been giving him raw apple, but I have been giving him rawstrawberries, blueberries, blackberries, and unpealed, raw peaches. I now have a funny feeling that this was the problem. I think I'll stick with the cooked fruits, and see if I have better luck with some pecan butter. Thanks for the help. Guest guest
Meleah, You could cook those berries and strain them well.... and use the result as a " jam " or syrup. Good to hear you seem to have figured this out... and I hope things will turn around for him now. Patti Re: Pecan vs. almond Patty, I am going to pick up some pecan butter today. It is more coarser than almond flour and looks like brown sugar . It makes the most delicious muffins (page 122 in BTVC, edition 10) or waffles (page 125 BTVC, edition 10) also pancakes. I substitute it for exactly the amountof almond flour called for in recipes. Carol F. SCD 6years, celiac
