Guest guest
Hi all, My name is June, I live in San ,CA and will be 50 next month. I have had intestinal problems my whole life. I was recently diagnosed with IBS and also discovered through my own research that I have one of the genes for celiac disease and am gluten, dairy and yeast intolerant. I have been on the gluten free diet for about a year and a half and still have a lot of bloating, and abdominal discomfort. Ten years ago I started having these attacks where I would vomit, have diarrhea, palpitations, leg shaking and extreme anxiety and also trouble breathing, which took me to the emergency room a few times. I wasn't sure if I was having a seizure or a heart attack the anxiety was so great. These reactions would last 6 hours and were exhausting. I would have one at least once a month and on a cruise a couple of years ago I had three in a week and lost six pounds. I was told that I had panic disorder but that didn't seem right since I have performed on stage with community theater. I have done a lot of testing and research on my own and finally found an MD who diagnosed me with severe leaky gut and found a total of 4 intestinal infections and parasites. I have been treated for the infections for the past year and do feel better. I have determined that I have severe food intolerances to gluten, dairy and yeast. I had a bit of whey protein a couple of months ago and had the whole vomiting, diarrhea etc. thing again. I was able to stop it after an hour by taking benadryl and phenergan, an antinausea drug which has anti-histamine properties. I haven't had an attack since then since I am really careful what I eat. I am seriously thinking of going on SCD. I only eat potatoes and brown rice and feel that I could easily eat lentils and almond muffins instead. A lot of the recipes sound very good to me. I ordered a grain free cookbook from DigestiveWEllness. Thanks for listening, June

The lentils don't get introduced right away but there are many many delicious foods available on SCD like muffins, pizza, lasagna and a host of other goodies. Of course they are homemade but very wholesome and absolutely delicious. You'll get a picture of what we are all about by reading the two recommended web sites. There are well over one thousand SCD recipes on the Internet alone that are free and also a number of excellent SCD Cookbooks but you can manage nicely with the Internet resources and of course the most important thing, " Breaking the Vicious Cycle, " the book by Elaine Gottschall that explains the diet and the science behind it. The book you did order is a great resource and has vital SCD information at the beginning.. I teach cooking with the two authors and the recipes are simple and yummy. You will get excellent support, information and encouragement on this listserv. Welcome! Carol F.
