Guest guest
Believe it or not, the surgery *may* cure the problem because of its effect on various hormones and enzymes. When we are overweight, our bodies produce more of various hormones, such as estrogen (just one example), and not just from the ovaries, but also the adrenal glands, for example. There is first an immediate effect on the body after the surgery, related to changes to the digestive system and digestive hormones/enzymes, and then as you lose weight, other hormone levels will change, too. So, depending on what causes your cramps, maybe you won't have cramps any more -- wouldn't that be just too great or what? But you can take Vioxx, for instance, after surgery, and there are probably others -- ask Dr. R. In the meantime, I emailed Dr R because I was concerned about the fact that he has removed Vioxx from the pre-surgery regimen, and he did NOT recommend Vioxx. Here is what I wrote him: <<Hi Doc, gets terrible cramps and headaches with her period. I have the Vioxx but was wondering if you think it is the best thing for her to take, in light of your recent post about patients taking it pre-op. Thanks, Debbie LaManna>> Here is what he wrote me back: <<The cramps are probably estrogen related. Hopefully they will be better. Re need for pain meds: I do not know of a good answer. For mild to moderate pain: nothing For severe pain: narcotics like codeine. RR>> just rode it out and was better the next day. Hope this helps.
