Guest guest
My 3yo son has severe eczema and multiple food allergies (egg being the worst). We have been doing SCD recipes for a couple of months now and had elimated all grains. We officially started on the intro diet Thurday. My husband and I are doing it with him. When do die- off symptoms usually start? I really don't expect my son to have many symptoms since he has pretty much been following SCD with the exception of occationally eating ice cream. My husband and I though have still been eating lots of illegal foods so I expected us to have some symptoms but so far we haven't. Does this mean it isn't working? Also, he is a really picky eater and wouldn't eat the intro foods (except the jello) so I heated the chicken from the soup up in the toaster oven and drizzled some honey on it. I am hoping this was ok since there is honey in the cheesecake recipe. Is it ok to use shea butter lotion on him during intro? Thanks, Cheryl
Guest guest
Cheryl, In SCD, we don't need to worry what goes on the skin, unless the child is likely to eat it. Patti Hi! New with some questions Is it ok to use shea butter lotion on him during intro? Thanks, Cheryl

You don't have to have die off symptoms for the diet to be working. I didn't have die off symtoms when I started but my DH and kids did. > Also, he is a really picky eater and wouldn't eat the intro foods > (except the jello) so I heated the chicken from the soup up in the > toaster oven and drizzled some honey on it. Guest guest
Thanks, I've been using this on him for a while and it really helps the condition(dryness) of his skin, it doesn't help the eczema though. His skin is always so dry and rough and I can put the shea on him one time and it looks so much better. I just wasn't sure since its from a nut if it would affect the diet since it is absorbed into his body. Much to his dislike I took the playdoh away(which he loves) since it has wheat in it. Poor little guy he's feeling so deprived right now. Plus I blew the intro because I didn't know that the perdue chicken with the broth was illegal until I was looking at some turkey breasts today and the ingredients of the broth was listed with sugar in it. So I looked at the chicken and yep its the kind with the broth and they dont list their ingredients. After a quick search here I found out I've been feeding him lots of illegal chicken. It's the one thing he would eat. Does this mean I have to start over? > > But reactions to creams or lotions must also be taken into account. Playdough can be a problem. My son had behavioral reactions to shaving cream at school. > >
Guest guest
I only meant that according to SCD " rules " or protocol, this is not an issue. If it's an issue for any one particular child, that's outside the realm of SCD. Of course, you should avoid using lotions or playdoh or whatever, if your child reacts to touching them.... it just only matters in terms of SCD if the child EATS it. Patti Re: Hi! Some parents DO go back and re-do the intro diet for a day or two at some point to get sort of a kick-start to the next level of healing if they feel they've kind of plateaued. Just forge ahead. Guest guest
Woohoo! That is a big relief. He didn't have a BM yesterday so I couldn't tell if anything was different but just a few minutes ago I changed his diaper and it was BLACK, sticky, stinky stuff so that kind of told me he is cleaning out anyway. It has been a rough 4 days so I was not looking forward to starting over. > > <<After a quick search here I found out I've been feeding him lots of illegal chicken. > It's the one thing he would eat.
