Guest guest
Gale, I know nothing about young kids with cf, a was diagnosed when she was almost nine, but it sounds she is swalowing(sp) a lot of mucus and that will make anybody throw up. Again I know nothing about cf in young kids, just my 2 cents worth. mom of a 10 wcf, Venanzio 7 nocf, Pepe 3 nocf > > About every two weeks, my grand daughter has a night where she is up > most of the night vomiting. Guest guest
Does she have reflux or delayed stomach emptying? If not, I don't know....... Vomiting all night ~ every two weeks About every two weeks, my grand daughter has a night where she is up most of the night vomiting. It seems to start around 11:00pm and continue until 2:00 am. The last hour or two, she only vomits thick mucus. Why does this happen? Is this normal for someone with CF? Why doesn't this pass in her stool? Is there anything that we can do? She is 20 months old and eats table food. She is a good eater and she drinks lots of thickened Gatorade. Gale
Guest guest
She has reflux. She is on Prilosec and Zantac. What doesn't make sense to me, is that it happens about once every two weeks. I wonder if the mucus builds up in her stomach. > Does she have reflux or delayed stomach emptying? Guest guest
My daughter who is now almost 7 was doing the same exact thing.....They put her on a stool softener and it never happened again. Don't know if this is your granddaughters problem or not, but it sure sounds exactly like what we went through. Hope this helps. Guest guest
Thank you for responding. Now that you mention it, her stool was pretty large and solid the day prior. I'll bet that you are right. I called Toni (Abby's mom) to tell her about your response. She'll talk to Abby's doctor about it. Thanks, Gale Abby's Grandma > My daughter who is now almost 7 was doing the same exact thing.....They put her on a stool softener and it never happened again. Guest guest
Patti (2.5 wcf) has done this before. I have a very unscientific mom explanation for why Patti does it, I don't know if it will help you though. Due to seasonal allergies I normally have very thick mucus that has to be cleared from my throat every morning. I think Patti must have that tendency as well as cf. Because she swallows her mucus instead of spitting it out she was having the throwing up episodes like you were describing. I wondered if the mucus was so thick that it was slowly building up in her stomach and blocking off the opening between the stomach and small intestine. I drink a coke every morning for the acid to burn the junk out of my throat. Not wanting to give Patti coke we tried ginger ale and it worked. (Ginger is also a stomach soother, but I don't know how much actual ginger is in ginger ale.) Try a little. It won't hurt her. Guest guest
We'll try this. It can't hurt and wouldn't it be great it it stopped her vomiting episodes. Thanks for your idea! Guest guest
I lived on ginger ale and crackers for the first trimester of my pregnancy with . It sure does help upset tummies! Guest guest
Dawn, I do that too with the coke, for the same reason. Every morning I have dried mucus in the back of my throat and (YUCK this sounds gross) sometimes it makes me gag and almost throw up. The coke helps. I am supposed to be having a sleep study and maybe they will find out why I am like this, I already know I snore so maybe it has something to do with that. love, Mom of Nick age 21 nocf and age 19 wcf
Guest guest
I was told while pregnant with Christian that during those months of morning sickness to nibble on ginger snaps before my feet hit the floor. Worked well for me and I since have passed it on to my friends that have morning sickness. Seems to work for them also.
