Guest guest
Well here goes the story of my MGB surgery journey. I called the hospital on Wednesday and they told me to be at the hospital at 11:00 but I could have sworn that Dr. Rutledge said no matter what to be there at 7AM. I went to the hospital at 8AM to be on safe side, even though when I talked to Barb, she said the 11:00 time was correct. Dr. Rutledge had a few to do at first. Upon arriving I checked in and was sent to the 5th floor (SDA section). SDA means surgery on same day admission. I was given a room and was told to just relax and I filled out the forms from the back of the manual. Just DO NOT sign anything until the nurse tells you to and then only in front of her. I was then measured for Ted hoses and slippers were given with the famous gown (it is huge even for me). I did not get into my gown until 1:30 cause I just don't like to give up my clothes unless absolutely necessary. I was in the holding area at 2:00 and went through the normal IV stuff. They (Sheila) could not get a vein in my left hand or arm. When these veins kept rolling she gave up and went straight for my right arm. She got the vein on the first try there. What a relief! I was rolled into surgery at 2:30 and was through by 3:02. I met my daughter in my room afterwards and then gave myself a dose of Demoral just for good measure. I wasn't in pain but was not going to wait til I was hurting and have to wait for the dose to kick in. I got up during the night and went walking the halls. I never got the gas pains and don't know why I did not. I then was told to get back in the bed cause my oxygen levels dropped. I was not allowed to walk anymore until they removed the oxygen, which was about 1 hour before they released me. Dr. Rutledge came by and said I could go at any time I chose. I of course left as soon as my daughter arrived. I was feeling a little tired and by the time we got my meds filled at the Eckerds on Hillsborough Rd. I was ready for my motel room. I laid down for a little while and then got up and cleaned around the punctures as best as I could. I think they superglued my breast to my stomach, cause they were stuck and I thought I would never get them loose. LOL I changed my bandages and put bandaids on them. I read up on all the post I missed and then decided to post so y'all could see I was doing well. I know by now that most people get tired of reading long post and so I will say good day for now. If you have any questions that I could answer just email me and I will do my best to answer. from SC post-op 8/
