Guest guest
Jody, you missed that one...we did have to go back to intro with her! Diarrhea is gone though! Thank GOD. In past (before SCD) we battled for it for weeks. We will have to sneak the other foods (more advanced) to the others on SCD, when she is not around. How fast do we go through the " stages " this time around?????????? Last night she had delirium again (two so far and one mild seizure). Very frustrating this set back. Does anyone know how long Elaine's Judy had them? In BTVC book, it just says that they where the first to vanish. With Kiki they vanished the first few weeks of SCD....only to return now that her gut is re-damaged with Rotavirus. So many other gains that she had with SCD that have not vanished though. She still is trying to talk! She still smiles~ She still wants to Play! Thank God. Yet, I am getting a little panicked her with this regression. Hope you are feeling better too! Thanks for suggestions, hope and anything you can offer, Antoinette mom to Kiki-2 celiac/asd/atustic SCD 2/
Guest guest
Antoinette, If I were in your position, I'd probably read up on Rotovirus and see how long the " typical " child takes to comepletely recover from it. Then I'd probably double or triple that for Kiki because her gut was not in " typical " shape when she got it. I wouldn't try to rush through anything. I'd feed her well-cooked, soft fruis and veggies. There are lots of fruits and lots of veggies. You shouldn't run out of new things to give her for several weeks. There sould be plenty of variety. Banana, avocado, green beans, squash, applesauce, meat cooked in water... theses would be the first things I'd try. The avocado will supply much needed fat. There is always the possibility of giving her things that will boost her immune system. Colostrum or Transfer Factor. Guest guest
Dear Jody, or if anybody has experience strength and hope, My husband and I have talked about " going out side " the SCD " box " and looking into Clostrum and Transfer Factors. Contact me off serve or OT, what ever suites you. We look forward to learning more. The doctor said that it would be a MONTH for kiki to recover from this set back. I just got off the phone with her. This is very frustrating, because we wanted to start therapy with her. We do not want to do it if she is sick. Thank you for suggestion of not rushing. You know me...I like to rush. Any thing to slow me down is needed at this time! I want this night mare to be over...needless to say we are only 4 months out. The first four gave me so much hope, with success that I got blinded to the FACT that it takes time to heal...a year or more according to BTVC. Now we have a " new " problem...she wants the more advanced foods. This is going to be a trick....but hopefully, " out of sit out of mind. " She has sleep deprived, EEG next Tuesday to see what her brain is doing. Guest guest
Hi Antoinette; Sorry to hear Kiki is having the deleriums again. Poor little girl. I have no advice on the colostrum or transfer factors - no experience with these... You mentioned that you want to start therapy with Kiki - I'm assuming ABA or speech/OT? Don't worry yourself about getting to the therapies. Concentrate on getting her health stabilized. She probably wouldn't get the greatest benefit from therapy at this point if she's still feeling cruddy. And she's so young!! You've got lots of time :-) !!! And good for you for thinking outside the SCD box. Sometimes our ASD kids need this. Guest guest
Dear Kim and Jody, It has not been easy seeing her have problems like this again. Just proof to how damged her intestines are once more. Seeing her in this much pain is breaking my heart. Plus I am sleep deprived. Having EEG next Tuesday..for what that will be worth, we do not knwo. Untill then, SCD has stopped her diarrhea once more! We try to hold on to those testimonies at times like this. Others have had set backs too. You are right, therapy has to be canceled...she is too sick. As for looking out side the box....this is going to be with very careful judgement. Everything has to be SCD legal...and if Elaine didn't like it...I doubt if we will be doing it. Before SCD...we experimented with so much....we do not want to waste any more time and see her suffer the consequences of bad choices like last year...thank God she is young. We are looking into SCD legal colustrum. Antoinette and (both celiac) parents to Kiki-2 celiac and autistic...and two sweet others.
