Guest guest
A new report on farmworkers and health reform was released recently at a legislative briefing in Sacramento, California. The report – “Health Care for California’s Farmworkers: Consensus Report of Local Agriculture and Labor Representatives” is the product of 18 months of dialogues in three major agricultural areas in California on health care and coverage issues facing the agricultural workforce. With all the activity on national health reform, it is important to ensure that the reform proposals benefit the agricultural workforce which is largely composed of low-income, immigrant workers who work for multiple employers on a seasonal, part-time and migrant basis. The discussions in the San Joaquin Valley, Salinas Valley and Ventura brought together a diverse array of stakeholders to review the needs of the agricultural workforce and their employers and examine how health reform proposals would affect the industry. The full report, funded by The California Endowment, is available at: http://www.diringerassociates.com/Health%20Care%20for%20Farmworkers%20-8-20%20%20final.pdf.
