Guest guest
Hi, I'm new to this board and just looking for some support. I have been trying to read some messages and lay low for awhile. I am currently trying to get an appt. with a Dr. Lehman at the Univ. of Illinois. I have been told that he is tops in the ERCP department. I am located in TN (yes, near Vanderbuilt Univ.) although they do not have the greatest gastro. dept., I have learned from past experience. My question is- Can an ERCP diagnose chronic pancreatitis or is other testing required. Since I had my gallbladder removed in 1998, I have suffered " severe attacks " of pain in the upper abdomen, left side and pierces through to the back, and gives me awful nausea. I have been through the " dr. mill " , with different diagnoses i.e. severe acid reflux, IBS, etc., etc...finally in 2003 I had a biliary sphincterotomy done at the Univ. of PA and it gave me 5 months pain free. I still have painful attacks approx. every other week. 3 MRCP's show a stone in the bile duct and 2 ERCP's show nothing. I am told by the local gastro dr. to continue with pain med.s during the bad days and just deal with it, because my pancreatic enzymes are never elevated. I do have pain after every meal and snack that I eat. I take Donnatal for this. Most of the time it helps. This is a sort of " fuzzy " picture of my story. Anyway, does anyone know of a good hotel near the University of Illinois that does not cost a fortune to stay for a couple of days. I would appreciate any feedback. Thank you Kris
