Guest guest
Hi! I haven't posted in a while so this is a little update. We are from NNY and after pursuing the band we got our prescription and a week later Aiden was casted. On June 6th we got our Starband. We also at this time got our claim denial from martin's point (tricare). However, so far so good with the band. Today was the first day that we made it a full 23 hours in the band and he does great with it. I do have a few questions though...the sweating is pretty bad and it has been unusually hot up here. I keep the air on but he still sweats. Does the sweating get better? Also at our appointment with the orthotist he said it would be about 6 months with the band. I thought that seems like a long time and from what I read most are only in their bands for about 12weeks. He got his band at around 8 1/2 months so I was a little shocked about hearing 6 months. He mostly has brachy and mild plagio. My husband is deployed so it was a little intimidating going out for the first time with the band for fear of staring people. And people did stare, but it went better than I thought. He looks so stinken cute in it that most people just smile at him which he loves. I will post pics soon. Thanks Amy mom to aiden (Starband 5 days! right plagio, brachy) Emma 3 years old
Guest guest
Hi Amy, I'm glad Aiden is getting started with his band. He and you should get used to it quickly. His body temperature should adjust in a week or so and he'll sweat a lot less. If he is sweaty you can take off the band and dry his head and the band with a towel. This helps keep the skin from getting irritated and is more comfortable. Also dress him lighter than before. My daughter could never wear socks while in her band and spent most of her time in a onsie and diaper. Six months is just an estimate, and it depends on the severity of your baby's head and how fast her grows. My daughter had sever brachy and wore her starband for 5 mo. She outgrew the band at the end and had gotten very good correction. Her head is still not perfect, but i doubt anyone but me would notice (or another plagio-mom). Don't worry too much about the time because it goes quickly. Also once you start seeing improvement you'll be glad he's in the band. > > Hi! I haven't posted in a while so this is a little update. Guest guest
Hi Amy, I am sorry that I haven’t been in touch lately. I have been so busy at work that I haven’t had time to do much else. I am glad to hear that Aiden got his helmet and things seem to be going well. Did you go with Northern Ortho and Don Holmes? We had an appt with him yesterday and I mentioned that I was in touch with a woman from the Watertown area whose husband is deployed and he thought you were his patient. I will e-mail you off line but just to let you know our Sara still sweats quite a bit. It was bad at first, got better, and then when it started to warm up it has gotten bad again…and stinky. She doesn’t seem to be too bothered. So we take it off here and there to dry the helmet and air her head. I will be in touch again soon. I hope things continue to go well for you.
