Guest guest
Pamela, If he picked something up then it will need to run its course. Carol maybe right too, that it is the dreaded three month regression maybe even piled up ontop of perhaps a virus or bug he caught. You are doing all the right things. If he is throwing up just try watered down juices. You can make your own gatorade. I know there is a recipe with Baking Soda but I've made it and I find it vile. You can make another kind. A recipe I got from the doctor's book of home remedies. a little bit of grape juice, a lot of water, a TBSP of honey and a couple pinches of salt. I got really sick a few years ago with a GI virus and made this when I could finally hold something down. It works. I watered it a lot because I did not want my stomach shocked by the sugar. He won't necessarily need ABs either. Hope this helps, Charlene UC 8 years SCD almost 6 years ? Ok thanks Carol! I called our doctor to talk to him about it all. I left a message at his home. He is a great country doctor and neighbourhood friend! He is a DAN doctor too. Will let you know how it all turns out. Thanks! Guest guest
The winter following the start of SCD my two kids were constantly sick - rotavirus landed in the hospital, croup landed the younger one in the ER, both got the flu, both had numerous bouts with croup and colds, both had several stomach flus.... but after that, nothing - they never get sick but for little colds that last a day or two and are rare. These guys are the healthiest kids I know! Hang in there... Also, is flaring with UC right now and I just started him on oil of oregano yesterday, 3 drops a day. Today he had a completely normal, blood free bm. Wow - now that's something. It's supposed to be anti-viral, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal so... might be worth a shot. Robbie Re: 16 has been on diet 6 weeks and is very ill suddenly? That's funny - about 6 weeks into the diet when I started, I also got pneumonia. But I had had it before, knew what it was, and was on antibiotics within 24 hours, and getting better quickly. Pneumonia takes a lot out of you. The ventilin will not affect the diet at all. It is non-steriodal, and really helps to open the lungs to breathe. A common name is albuterol. Do not be afraid to give it to him, but it can wind him up. Winds me up something awful, but I can breathe. If he came home with a breathing machine, this is most likely the medicine for it. The inhaled steroids are not as bad as the pills for SCD, but if he needs to pills, it's OK to use meds that are needed. I took every one of those antibiotic pills, even knowing what havoc they caused, because I needed them to kill those nasties. Rest is what he needs to fight off the nasties. He can probably judge what he is capable of doing physically. He may get tired very suddenly - just let him rest. You could probably do with some rest, too. Hospitals are very stressful, especially on mothers staying at the hospital with their child. Been there, done that. Wasn't restful in the least. The yogurt probably did not contribute to the pneumonia, but if you're more comfortable not giving it for a while, that's fine. My favorite advise is " You're his mother. You know him best. Trust your instincts - they're usually right. " Now, a few deep breaths, whatever you do to relax, a good night's sleep, and tomorrow's a new day.
