Guest guest
Rochelle, My son does do the yogurt, but we don't do eggs, so he mostly eats meat, vegies, and fruit. My opinion would be to bump up their meat intake. You could also slip some fish oil into grape juice. This would give some extra fat, and provide DHA and/or EPA for brain development. Guest guest
le, It can be really hard to get enough calories in if you're not doing any nuts or dairy. Why no nuts? Are they allergic? It's too bad they are so limited... in that you're doing very little fruit also. I would highly recommend avacados as a great source of quality fat and calories. Most kids tolerate it well. You can add it to many recipes... or to smoothies, make dips, etc. I'm concerned that your husband doesn't really understand the concept of SCD if he's suggesting introducing millet. Is he thinking that millet has a lot of calories? I'm not sure it really does, unless they ate great quantities of it. That would certainly defeat the purpose of SCD. Are you using natural antifungals? And most importantly, if you're not doing SCD yogurt in any form, are you supplementing with acidophilus to repopulate their guts with good flora? Patti Help...we aren't gaining weight I hope someone can help. We have been 100% SCD legal. I'm sure we've improved digestion. The problem is that I just discovered that my boys have gained no weight in the last 6 months. I sat down and tried to figure out calorie content in what they are eating and I'm shocked we haven't lost weight! They are 2.5 so I worry about what this is doing to their brains since their bodies aren't growing and I feel like the worst mother in the world--like I am starving them. So my husband is telling me we need to reintroduce millet. I don't want to do this and I believe in the principals behind this diet but I agree we don't have enough foods with calories. We can't do dairy and we can't do nuts/seeds. My boys are eating mostly vegetables, limited fruit (yeast issues, no honey for that reason either), eggs, and meats. I use coconut oil and rice bran oil and ghee in cooking. Does anyone have some nut and dairy free recipes or ideas that have calories? le

Both are rich especially the avocado which you can mash and use as a spread or a dip or in slices. Carol F. SCD 6 years

Guest guest
Olives are great for gaining weight. I use the Santa Barbara Olives, the ones with nothing added. They can be purchased at the health food store. I would not use the ones that have additives. My son did not gain that much weight during the first years of SCD. At that time we used a grape juice that was organic and was clearly labeled to not have any sugar. When we switched to a legal brand,my son gained weight and the size of his waist is now average. I later retasted the grape juice that we had first used and found that it tasted " altered " . A lot of " organic " foods companies are being bought by the big food conglomerates and the food is being altered. Mimi > Hi le, > You don't state how long you how long you have been doing the diet.
