Dear Patti and all,

We highly doubt that we will ever stop eating the SCDiet. This is not

why I wrote. The reason why I asked is to make sure that her immune

system and other systems would be ready for a surgery. She came to

SCDiet a very sick little girl. I know that it was not just her

intestines that had paid the price of eating the wrong way.

Scdiet has sold us! We all have never felt better. Seeing our

daughter emerge from autism is just one reason. WE are thrilled to

all feel better as a family. We just don't want to mess things up by

doing surgery too soon on a baby that is not healed yet. Elaine said

Do you have a " dan " doctor? If so, I would consult them. You can certainly

do some things to boost up her immune system. You can high dose fish oil,

and I think that the change to scd has probably given her a good boost as

well. She's probably eating healthier than ever before, so her body can

fight better. I'm sure that there are some other ways to boost her immune

system naturally in preparation for surgery. I can ask a couple of nurse

friends who are very into whole foods, natural methods, ect.

<<Elaine said ONE YEAR to heal from celiac, is surgery before this time too

soon?>>

I'm sure it really depends on an individual's state of general health and degree

of gut damage. It's not going to be " one year " for each and every person to

achieve full healing.

I believe Elaine stated that one should continue on SCD for one year BEYOND the

last symptoms disappearing...not that it is going to take " one year " on SCD to

heal celiac disease. Correct me if I'm wrong but that's how I have understood

her writings.

But back your question... I don't believe Elaine ever said anything about " how

soon " one could have any sort of surgery after being on SCD.

I marked this message subject line " OT " when I posted it, because this is not

really an SCD issue. This is something only you, as parents, along with your

doctor, can decide.

Thank you. I have looked also, to see if Elaine said anything about

surgery and time frame to healing. Since she did not you are right it

is OT. Our doctors are clueless. One doctor thinks that she is well

enough, the other does not. Regardless we will have to descide and

take our SCD foods with us to the hospital. I do not look forward to

the antibiotics and what they will do to her. I will take your

suggestion of feeding her plenty of yogurt and acidolphilus.

Elaine said at the beginning of BTVC:

" Readers should not indulge in self diagnosis and self treatment. This book will

be

complimeneted by discussiions with a physician. "

BTVC outlines a diet and the list supports it. We are not qualified to advise on

the best

time to have surgery. It is definitely a matter outside the abilities of

Pecanbread.

Although list members may share there own experiences i is still no substitute

for

qualified medical advice, expecially in matters outside nutrition.

Once again I weish to stress the importance of reading and rechecking the book

as often

as possible. The majority of answers are answered there or on Elaine's web site:

www.breakingthe viciouscycle.info.

Is there some sense of urgency for this surgery?

Is it not correctable later?

If one doctor says she's okay and the other does not, I would hold

off. I always tend to err on the side of caution.

She just came out of a set back and surgery almost always seem to

involve antibiotics of some sort.

If this is a life-threatening issue that cannot be successfully taken

care of later, that is a different issue. But if it is something that

she can have done later with no permanent damage, then I'd probably

hold off in your situation.
