Guest guest
Hi, Where can I get a list of surgeons who do the MGB (Mason loop). This is the first I've heard of this procedure. I've been research WLS for a couple months. First thought I wanted the VBG, then decided on the RNY -- now I'm hearing terrible things about the RNY. What's a fat lady to do????? Need help and info, please. Baton Rouge, LA

Guest guest
Dear : You can't. Even Dr. Mason, MD, PhD emeratus professor that he is, doesn't recommend the Mason loop any more. Guest guest
Donna, Thanks for this information. It really helps to see the pictures and understand what is happening with each of these types of surgery. I also agree that by far, Dr. R. really surpasses everyone else in educating patients on what is going to happen, what to expect and what the risks are. I really feel you have to do you homewok to get approved for this surgery - and participation in the online support groups is great. I get much more out of this e-mail group than I would if I only had access to a once a month face-to-face support group. - waiting in Chicago Mason loop OK, I was a bit concerned after reading the LOSA site, but I decided to (once again) do a bit of research. I found a good picture of the loop as it was done long ago and then subsequently abandoned. You can see a clear picture and it is so obviously different from the MGB that it is actually laughable. http://asbs.org/html/story/ch_4.html I also read that some doctors don't like that Dr. R encourages email followup instead of office visits. Well, welcome to the 21st century ladies and gentlemen. We are free to go back to Dr. Rutledge anytime and our followup information from our PCP is put into the MGB database for all to see. Find me another Dr. who so diligently strives to educate his patients. I know of 2 RNY patients who do not have a clue what was done to their bodies. Neither one was even told that there was a lap option because that Dr does not do laps. Both have hernias as a direct result of their RNYs. Their doctor gave them a 1 page instruction sheet post op. 1 page.....no readily available support group-no past patient contacts offered or recommended either. The rate of death and complications from RNY is huge. The hospital stay and recovery time are 5-6 times that of the MGB. The RNY is very difficult and dangerous to take down also. The MGB is reversible in about 1 hr surgery. Yes, I'll take the MGB. For those of you who are questioning this decision all I can say is DO YOUR HOMEWORK. Make an educated decision based on facts.
