Amy,

Have mercy girl!!!!!! What a wonderful story. I am so inspired by those

that have gone before me. I am sooooo looking forward to getting that

dancing feeling and I mean SOOOON!!! Congratulations on a new life and the

weight loss. And the lady that dismissed you because of the surgery well

pooh on her. God gave you a wonderful gift and that was to have the surgery

done by Dr. Rutledge. Keep up the good work.

With Love,

Lara M. Akin (BMI 61)

Amy,

I am so excited and happy for you - especially since you found Dr. R and the MGB

while your children are young - you will have so much fun experiencing your

children as they grow older, not being limited by all that extra weight. I wish

I could have addressed my obesity when I was much younger. But I am going to

address it now, God and Dr. R willing. And I know I will enjoy these later

years with my husband and adult children, and hopefully with some grandchildren

in the future, if I can deal with this problem now. I can't wait to get over to

the other side and begin enjoying all these wonderful experiences that all you

" post-ops " have been describing on this board. I know there are risks and

life-style changes that have to be made and I know there can be complications,

but I am convinced I want to be able to write a message like the one you wrote

below! Keep up the great work!

3 month update (LONG)

Today is my 3 month anniversary, and I'm so thrilled I can barely express my

feelings. First off, I have lost 50 lbs. I am right on target, and that is

after having a " slow " first month loss of " only " 24 lbs. Somehow, I've

caught up.

I'm the one who continued wearing my size 26 and 3X clothes until finally,

yesterday, I put on a dress that my buddy Trish (dear angel that she is!!!)

sent to me. I looked so cute and THINNER!!! I went to a local gastric

bypass support group last night (the Staple Club - cute!) and was introduced

to over 100 people. A number of them recognized my name and my story at

OnHealth, but one (cute) guy commented that I really needed to update the

pictures on my website!!! Most of these people would not qualify for the

MGB because of the weight limit, but several people were interested. They

were all thrilled for me, and welcomed me to the support group.

So today, since I was feeling good, I decided to go buy just one or two

things for myself. I have 2 " functions " coming up, and I'd like to look a

little nice. I really didn't know what sizes would fit me, so I took a 22W

into the dressing room, hoping it would fit (it looked too small). Well, it

didn't fit...it was TOO BIG!!! Shock. I went out and got the 20W, and the

18W just for kicks. Guess which size fit me? THE 18W FITS AND LOOKS

GOOD!!! I swear I almost screamed in the dressing room. I came back out to

get other cute dress that they only had in a 20W (I had ignored it at first

because I thought it would be too small) and I swear I was almost crying.

Some lady came over to ask my opinion on a color combo, and I had to explain

why I was so giddy! She asked me how I had lost weight, and I replied that

I had had weight loss surgery. She answered somewhat dismissively,

" oh " ...like that didn't count or something. Hey, you know what? I'm eating

100% better, I'm exercising 3-4x a week (doing Jazzercise - still the

fattest in the room) but because I had the " help " of surgery, it's like it

didn't count. And this was from someone who could benefit from the MGB!!!

Anyway, I bought all the stuff I really liked (on great sales since it's the

end of the season) and now I have a few new SMALLER outfits! I'll have to

retrain my eyes, because these clothes look like they'd be way too small for

me! :-)

So, I'm down from a tight 26 or 3X to an 18 or 1X (probably could do an XL

depending), from a 46DDD to a 40DD, minus 50 lbs., and I have a great

attitude. I have also lost 6 inches in my waist, and 3 inches in my hips

(they're hanging on for dear life!)

For those of you still undecided, ask any questions you have. This is the

absolute BEST thing I have ever done, and I have NO regrets, except that I

wish I could have done it sooner. I feel terrific, and have improved my

life and my health more than I ever thought possible. My kids (oldest is 7)

have never seen me this thin, and are really proud of me! I won't be so

embarrassed to accompany my son to 2nd grade next week! Maybe I won't be

the fattest mom in the class anymore!!!

Thanks everyone, for your love and support. What a wonderful gift life is.

I'm so happy that I'm again able to experience life rather than observe from

the sidelines. I can't believe what a difference losing 50 lbs. made. It

can only get better!!! Thanks again Dr. Rutledge. I truly owe you my life.

You will never know how much this has meant to me and to my family. We all

appreciate you from the bottom of our hearts.

Blessings to all of you!

~Amy.

P.S. I will TRY and get some new pictures! I promise! :)
