Guest guest
Lucy, I have a problem getting around too. On very bad days, I have to use a wheelchair or a store scooter if they have one. I'm a very stubborn person and usually wait til it is too bad. LOL I try to blame it on the tumors in my feet, but my legs give out too. They have for a long time and I blamed that on the fibro. I do use a cane occasionally too. We are planning to take and Makeila to Disneyland for 3 days in April. I KNOW I will need a wheelchair for that. We have a drug store in town that rents wheelchairs for $25 a week. At Christmas time I did that. Thanks for sharing about your new jazzy. Sounds like fun. If you ever meet you two can have races, but don't let try. LOL hugs
Guest guest
Hi Lucy, I use a wheelchair if I have to walk any distance or stand too long. I have leg pain and I tire easily. Sandy ----- Original Message ----- Hi Group, Lucy here. I just wanted to ask a question concerning the need for a scooter, wheelchair, power chair, etc. in order to go shopping, to the park, or out to get the mail ? I would like to get an idea of just how many of us are affected for whatever the reason, with problems walking any distances or standing for long periods of time without pain in legs or back which limits our mobility. I blame mine on Osteoarthritis, Fibromyalgia and I am sure RP is in the middle of the problem. By the way, if any of you are on Medicare and have a need like I described, call The Scooter Store and ask about the Power chairs or scooters. I have a brand new Jazzy Jet 3 that The Scooter Store helped me get approved through my Rheumy and Medicare. $6300.00. Of that amount, my final copay is only $254.00. Medicare paid over $5000.00, my secondary insurance paid 80% of the remaining 20%, then my copay is the 20% of that. I am not suggesting that every one on Medicare run out and contact The Scooter Store, but if the need is there, I want you to know that it really does help you obtain the equipment you need. Please let me know how many of you do use one of the items listed above for getting places you need to go. Guest guest
I have trouble with sitting, standing, and walking if I do too much of any one activity. If I vary my activities, then I get along much better. I don't use any assistance yet, but was cane shopping just before the Remicade kicked in. Guest guest
Hi Lucy, Sorry about the late response to this, but I've been on vacation and am just now reading posts from last week. I " only " have RP and find that standing in line is the worst thing I can try to do. I start getting really intense pain in my lower, mid back and have to sit down. Because of this, when we flew to Kauai this last week, I used a wheelchair in the airports for everything. It is the only thing that lets me get through the traveling without paying a huge price during my vacation. I also have used a wheelchair when I went Christmas shopping. I've decided that I can either try to use " tools " like this, or have to severely limit my ability to participate in things. Thanks for the information on the scooters. I am not needing that much assistance at this time, but will keep it on hand. Take care!
