Guest guest
Dear Colleagues, We are very excited to announce that Farmworker Health Services, Inc. is now Health Outreach Partners! We have expanded our scope of work, changed our name, and revised our mission in direct response to the feedback, data, and personal stories you have shared. Over the past couple of years, we’ve seen and heard from so many organizations about the rapid changes in the labor sector and in patient demographics. For outreach staff and other care providers, the distinction between one labor sector and another in need of preventative, enabling, or primary care services often seems artificial. There is a real and growing need for outreach and similar grassroots models for vulnerable populations in addition to farmworkers. Groups like day laborers, meat processors, dairy workers, construction workers, lumber workers, port workers, and domestic workers continue to need outreach as a means for improving access to health care. Health Outreach Partners is excited to fill that growing need. After a year-long discussion, our board and staff came to the conclusion that as national leaders in health outreach, a scope expansion was not only a smart idea, but a necessary idea. We are very proud that our organization has successfully promoted grassroots community health models and popularized outreach as a legitimate and effective strategy in the farmworker health field, long before their widespread use in other fields. As we enter our 40th year of work with local communities nationwide, we are prouder still to broaden the beneficiaries of our work, including all underserved, low-income, and vulnerable populations served by health outreach programs. Our history, expertise, and credibility are rooted in our long-standing commitment to migrant and seasonal farmworkers. Our board and staff are committed to preserving this legacy and focus. Visit the FAQ section of our website ( http://outreach-partners.org/scopeexpansionfaq.html) to read about our new vision and mission statements and learn more about our scope expansion. As always, we look forward to our continued work together Lakshmi Subramani Executive Project Coordinator Health Outreach Partners 405 14th Street, Suite 909 Oakland, CA 94612 510.268.0091 voice 510.268.0093 fax www.outreach-partners.org
