It all comes back to me now. The worst was my youngest, the one with

cf, who had us all bamboozled all of the time. Samples:

1) at age 1.75: " I do not WANT to be told what to do; I want to tell

EVERYONE ELSE what to do!

2) at age 2.5: (in the middle of a huge (100+) party at our house, in

the evening; kid comes in and says at 7:15 p.m. (LOUDLY) " Don't

you THINK it was about time I was put to bed? " (definitely);

3) at age 3: (in middle of night); comes in, to OUR bedroom without

knocking or asking, turns on the lights and says to her father, " I am not

happy with the manner with which I was dealt this evening! "

Fortunately, Hans had a brain, and silently arose and carried said kid

face downwards to bed, and said, " In CASE there IS a next week

around here, we MAY, at our discretion, get around to the subject of

your concern! " He closed her bedroom door firmly!;

4) At age 5.5, I get this phone call from a teacher complaining about

the kid. I enquire about the kid and discover that there has been no

foul language, sign or otherwise, no violence, but that the teacher is

really upset at having said kid " Snap those eyes at me! " True, all too

true; my mother could do it; my eldest sister could do it, and I used to

practice in the bathroom in front of the mirror--could not do it--something

about the whites of the eyes appearing all the way around

the iris and the lids snapping very rapidly. Sympathised with and con

soled teacher.

And they go through it all again in adolescence--some of them never

go through it at all; Kim is right. The whole thing gives me the sudders!

My own mother maintained that I was always the sole of sweetness and

light--well, she, a concert pianist, was rather unaware!

Love to all parents at cfparents!
