Guest guest
Leah, I doubt that the " fruit flavored " medication is legal. I'm sure it's been sweetened somehow. If you post the ingredients to both medications, we can tell you whether they are okay or not. As for whether SCD can be done without nuts, defintely yes. It is more difficult because nuts are a high calorie food. But you can make banana pancakes, sneaky veggie pancakes, chicken pancakes and variations on these instead of nut-based pancakes. You can make cakes and muffins using coconut flour instead of nut flour. In your position, I would have him tested for more than just almonds. A RAST blood allergy test can test for around 100 things with one blood draw. It could be that the reaction he had was to something that isn't a food. Guest guest
Ingredients for the Benedril: active: diphenhydramine inactive: carboxymethylcellulose sodium, citric acid, flavors, glycerin, purified water, saccarin sodium, sodium benxoate, sodium citrate, and sorbitol solution Ingredients for Alavert: active:lortadine inactive:artificial flavor, citric acid, glycerin, propylene glycol, purified water, sodium benzoate, sucrose I didn't even think about his medications being SCD compliant. oops. So, he's on all intro diet foods (eggs, boiled chicken, pureed carrots, broiled burger, legal/diluted grape and orange juice) and has been since Sat. We added apple sauce today. Do you think we're o.k. or should we stick with just the intro. until he cleans up from the meds. His last dose was yesterday morning. We'll also look into more thourough testing for allergies. Thanks! Leah > > Leah, > > I doubt that the " fruit flavored " medication is legal. Guest guest
In the benadryl: Sorbitol is illegal. And all KINDS of illegals can be hidden under the " flavors " label. In the Alavert: Sucrose is illegal. Anything that ends in " ose " is a sugar. If he ever needs to take these meds again, you might be able to get capsules, without the sweeteners, and just open them into applesauce. Or, get them compounded. I also have Benadryl compounded and it is quite agreeable. I rarely use it. Mine has no sorbitol.
