Guest guest
Angie, For poison ivy, I buy Zanfel, which is very expensive. (And I've already had to buy it twice this year!) Since it is a topical application it should be fine while doing SCD. I am one of those rare people who is not allergic to poison ivy, or at least I think I am, so I would be happy to removed it from our yard, but that is not enough for my family to be safe. We like to go hiking and orienteering and even if we didn't, my DH is soooo very allergic to it, that he gets it from being within 100 feet of it, or so it seems. Also as soon as he gets any, it spreads all over him and effects him in every way, makes him so miserable that he can't function. Our doctor used to always give him steroids for it, but we didn't like that, so we finally decided to try this expensive stuff, Zanfel. It works better than any other over-the-counter thing we have ever tried before, although not perfectly. I think the reason it does not do the job 100% for my DH lies in something his doctor told him the last time he saw him. Most people who get a poison ivy rash just have a rash in the places that the oil has touched, whether from direct contact with the plant or from brushing against a dog or piece of clothing that has it on it. But what my DH gets is a systemic reaction, apparently not common, but not unheard of. So the Zanfel does the job for my DC and it helps a lot for my DH. It comes in a tube, but if you look for it at the store, you'll be looking for a box. The tube is inside like when you buy toothpaste. Sheril --------------------------------- Talk is cheap. Guest guest
Dear Angie: My daughter Jeannie is ADHD. I have to limit anything high in salicylates or she is hyper, even on the diet. Mostly apples, apple cider, and almonds I have eliminated or reduced. My daughter's concentration has improved but it is not quite where I would like it to be. I am giving her B vitamins and cod liver oil. I am going to start on the magnesium soon again. I think this part of the healing takes a long time. I am trying to be patient. I am anxious to hear what others are going to tell you as well. Eileen Brown SCD since 9/05 for my children
Guest guest
" But no matter how much I feed him, he doesn't gain. " Try inputting a day's menu into fitday.com and compare it to the number of calories he needs per day. It may be that he is eating a large quantity of low calorie foods and still not getting quite enough calories each day.
