Guest guest
Liz, The recommendations for doing five days of intro if diarrhea and cramping are severe are from the book.... which, you have to remember, was written for people with severe gut disorders like ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, etc. If your son did not have diarrhea before SCD, I am thinking this is probably part of the changes that will happen for him right in the beginning.... part of " die-off " , if you will. Don't stop giving him the eggs and grape juice (make sure you're diluting it)... and don't stay on intro any longer. If I were you, I would go ahead and move on with the pear sauce. If you use bacon, make sure it's a legal, sugar-free one. And be sure the tomato sauce is legal... either boiled down legal tomato juice, or made from fresh, peeled and de-seeded tomatoes. Are you doing epsom salts baths? This will really help him with de-toxing and sooth the die-off symtoms. Patti, mom to Katera, SCD 2003-04... and now back on it since 5/27/06 for support of seizure control. 3rd day on diet - son not eating much and has stomach ache/diarrhea Hi, This is our 3rd day on the diet. So far, my son has eaten only scrambled eggs, gelatin, and white grape juice. I had also started giving him Brainchild zinc and minerals (low doses). Didn't give him any yet today. He was also taking Diflucan, although I haven't given him that since yesterday morning. He does have a yeast problem. Yesterday, he complained of a stomachache a few times. Last night he woke up with a stomachache and diarrhea. It was very liquidy and clear, excpet for some very loose yellowish stool. Today he has complained about stomachache again. He hasn't eaten anything yet except for white grape juice. He is in a very bad mood, being oppositional, etc. I was wanting to move on and give him some food today that I knew he would eat (bacon and tomato sauce, or pearsauce). Now I'm afraid to do this because BTVC says to wait until diarrhea and cramping have subsided. He wasn't having the persistent stomachache and diarrhea before the diet. Stools were usually loose but rarely diarrhea. Maybe he is not tolerating the egg or the grape juice? But he never seemed to have problems with these before. Or could this be from die-off? I don't think it's the Diflucan or Brainchild minerals becuase I haven't given them today and his stomach still hurts. I'm thinking I have a few choices here but not sure what to do: --stop giving him eggs and/or white grape juice (but definitley need a replacement!) --just move on like I planned with bacon and tomato sauce or pear sauce and continuing with eggs and white grape juice. --continue on Intro diet with scrambled eggs being pretty much the only food he will eat. (He doesn't even really want to eat these - so far has only eaten them late in the day when he realizes he is very hungry). Any advice? Thanks in advance. Guest guest
Patti, Thank you so much for your response. I feel better because what you are saying is what I felt was the right thing to do. I did give him bacon today (the no sugar kind) and he was so happy. I'm going to make " pizza " tonight with either the chicken pancakes or the ground beef crust, and top it with tomato sauce and bacon. I'm using the legal tomato juice. Tomorrow I will give him the pear sauce. No, we haven't done the epsom salt baths yet. I will give that a shot, but he is not used to taking a bath every night so he may refuse. Thanks! Guest guest
Hi There, Zinc on an empty stomach does cause some kids nausea. Might want to discontinue the LiquiZinc until he's stable on everything else. I would suggest that you not increase doses of our supplements until you've figured out why he's having stomach aches. With a change of diet and supplementation at the same time, that's a pretty big shift for the body to make all at once, and this could be the issue. Might want to go more gradually/one thing at a time if things don't ease up. Terri (at Brainchild) > Hi, > > This is our 3rd day on the diet.
