Guest guest
Toby I am certain that others her can help you in eating a balanced diet. But wanted to share a success story. WE also came with many food intolerances. It wast truly upsetting. Elaine felt that some of these allergies are a direct result to a sick and injured gut. Leaky guts full of bad gut flora, do strange things to the immune system. As our gut became to heal and the gut flora began to get into balance we surprisingly realized that we could tolerate some of those things that we never could before. We went slow though so that we would know what the true offender was. We are now able to tolerate the SCD 24 hour goat yogurt, and allowed cheeses (first we tried goat cheddar). Two plesant surprises that came with healing and practicing SCD 100%. Foods high in phenol/salicylates, where a problem too, at one time. I can now enjoy eggs if I don't over do it! They can now eat the almond flour and all the fruit they want. No more Phenol/Salicylate problems. Not all have this success. But you can hope that you are like us. After you heal for a while...try one food at a time keeping a journal and see if you have become ok with it. Elaine tells us how to do it in the book. After a year of " fanatical SCD " , I am going to have me and my kids retrested so that we can amaze our doctors. I look forward to that day. Hope this gives hope, Antoinette (celiac/ multiple allergies/food intolerance) mom to three kids that are a combination of celiac, asd, adhd, add, and where " allergic to everything " too! Guest guest
Antoinette - thanks for the encouragement! I am not that familiar with the methods or reliability of allergy testing (still learning) and most of what I have heard so far seems to lean towards the " if a food is currently a problem, it will always be a problem " perspective. Encouraging to hear that this was not your experience. Thanks, Toby > > Toby I am certain that others her can help you in eating a balanced > diet. But wanted to share a success story. Guest guest
Toby, Is she allergic to tree nuts as well? How about coconut? Starch has a lot of calories and so do nuts. Removing the nuts, eggs and casein from her diet will leave you with a lot of planning to get a balanced diet, but it is probably not impossible. One question is this... is she allergic to goat's milk as well? If not, you could use that to make her yogurt and you could give her goat cheese. If not, perhaps you could include coconut and avocado in her diet to help fill in the missing calories. Not that this helps now, but statistics show that 5% of kids, but only 1% of adults have food allergies. So, the odds are in your favor that with strict avoidance, she will " outgrow " the allergies and in time she will be able to eat things that she is currently allergic to. Guest guest
Jody - thanks for the suggestions! Regarding tree nuts, the challenge is that my wife is allergic to many of them (walnuts, pecans, cashews, etc.) She does fine with peanuts and almonds, but my daughter cannot do peanuts. They both have had severe anaphalactic reactions so we are VERY careful to avoid them. Almonds seem to be the only good option. We are not sure about goats milk - we may have bloodwork done to determine this, since we are nervous about experimenting based on her past reactions to other things. Coconut and avocado - new things to think about. Great to hear that they are high in calories. Thanks for the help, and the hope for the future!
