Guest guest
HELLO EVERYONE, IT HAS BEEN A WHILE SINCE I HAVE POSTED. I JUST WANTED TO SAY HELLO TO ANYONE NEW TO THE LIST YOU WILL LOVE THIS WONDERFUL FAMILY. MY SON CODY WAS DIAGNOSED AT ONE MONTH OLD TO THE DATE. MY PEDIATRITION CAUGHT IT BECAUSE HE HAD 3 OTHER CHILDREN IN HIS PRACTICE AND MADE IT MANDITORY TO TEST FOR IT WHEN THE PKU WAS DONE. CODY HAD NO OBSTRUCTION, BUT HE WAS A LITTLE ON THE SKINNY SIDE BUT FOR THE MOST PART HEALTHY. AT HIS LAST CLINIC VISIT HE HAD LOST A !/2 OF A POUND AND HE NEVER REALLY HAD ANY WEIGHT ISSUES SINCE HE WENT ON ENZYMES. HE TAKES 2 CAPSULES OF ULTRACE BEFORE MEALS AND ONE WITH SNACKS, YET LATELEY EVEN WITH THIS INCREASE IN ENZYMES HE STILL HAS STOOL 3-4 TIMES A DAY. MY QUESTION IS , IS THIS THE NORMAL AMOUNT OF ENZYMES FOR HIS AGE ( 16MONTHS). HE ALSO EATS LIKE A HORSE EVERYTHING IN SIGHT AND VERY FATTENING FOODS. FOR EXAMPE HE WILL HAVE 3 OZ OF DINTY MOORE BEEF STEW, 8 FRENCH FRIES, CUP OF FRUIT AND THREE TO FOUR OZ. OF MILK. THAT IS A LOT OF FOOD FOR A 16 MONTH OLD. HIS STOOLS LOOK NORMAL TO ME. HE WEIGHS ABOUT 24 POUNDS WHICH STILL IS IN THE 50TH PERCENTILE , BUT HIS DOCTOR WANT TO ADD SUPPLEMENTAL FEEDINGS BUT I DON'T THINK THAT IS THE ISSUE. CAN ANYONE HELP? Guest guest
Just for reference, at 16 months Kate averaged 1 stool per day. However, she didn't eat like horse! What does your doc think of the stooling? Jane Lindrum Mom of Kate 4 w/cf RE: ENZYMES & STOOLS HELLO EVERYONE, IT HAS BEEN A WHILE SINCE I HAVE POSTED. Guest guest
Hi, At 16 months still had about 2-3 stools a day. I have 3 questions. 1) Have they mentioned Cutting down on the fruit? A whole cup of fruit might be too much (fruit is a natural laxative!) 2) Does he anything " binding " like rice? 3) Have you asked them about changing enzymes? It might be as simple as that, some people do better on different enzymes. Hope this helps. RE: ENZYMES & STOOLS HELLO EVERYONE, IT HAS BEEN A WHILE SINCE I HAVE POSTED. Guest guest
Wow! Cody has a great appetite. Good for him. My grand daughter takes 4 pancrecarb MS-4 with each meal. She eats good, like Cody. She is 20 months old and weighs about the same as Cody (I think). She has two to four mushy poops per day. I have no idea if that's what we should expect. Guest guest
There are a number of things that could be involved here. One is that he may have too much stomach acid for the enzymes to work properly. You might consider giving him an acid reducer about an hour before he eats. Another thing to try is to see how many fat grams it takes for him to need one enzyme. Then count up the fat grams in the meal you are feeding him and give him the appropriate number of enzymes. Guest guest
I'm not sure if this will help or not... My daughter is 9mo and at her last clinic visit they increased her enzymes to 1 1/2 caps of Ultrace with each meal. This was done because of the increase in appetite and the fact that she was having 3 big bowel movements (that looked normal) a day. They said this enzyme dose is still really low. They also ordered a test that will tell us how much her pancreas is actually working (using a stool sample). After the increase her appetite returned to normal and her bowel movements decreased to once a day.
