Guest guest
Ours is a Hanger band. It fit pretty well after a couple adjustments. Our son was scanned with the lazer. I know that some lacations that do Starbands do laser scans too (just from reading). Our son also has (had) some exzema on his head. IT actually got better with the helmet??!!! If we have a flare up we use a little Aquaphor and let it dry before putting the helmet back on. I hope someone here can answer more of your technical question on the different types, I am pretty new to alot of this. Guest guest
Ana - Marie - My daughter Lucy got a STARband at 5.5 months old - they also did a laser scan of her head and the orthotist told me the process they use is to take the laser scan to make a styrafoam mold of her head. With that mold they made a custom STARband for her - ot fit perfectly the entre time - a little loose after each adjustment, as it should be to allow for growth. We had excellent results and se only wore it for 6 weeks and went from 11mm plagio to 0mm. Also, regarding the eczema, Lucy has some on the sideburn areas during treatment and we would apply lotion or sometimes a thin coat of hydrocortizone if it looked really irritated, but her scalp looked great the entire treatment. HOWEVER, since we have been done with the band, we have been battling terrible dry scalp!!! I think with the helmet on in trapped in so much moisture and oils and now with it gone, it is just drying out soooo much. We live in a very cold climate (-10 wind chill this am) which doesn't help either. We just keep greasing her up with Aquaphor! Good Luck with everything!! - Meg > > (We just got our helmet yesterday for my 6 month old son) > > I suppose I should have asked the doctor this or the tech but I > hadn't thought of it until today when I researched the helmets > online and saw all the different ones they have. Guest guest
Try using extra virgin olive oil on her scalp. I treated my son with it right before he got his band because he had cradle cap and it wiped it out right away. I would imagine it would help with general dry scalp too, and it's totally safe for you to use because she's already out of the band (I wouldn't recommend it during band treatment, without asking your ortho at least, because it does leave hair oily for a few days and I'm not sure how that would effect the foam of the bands). Anyway, rub some in her scalp and let it sit for a few moments, I even using a comb to really massage it into his scalp, then wash it out. It has to be extra virgin, it has a bunch of natural antioxidents in it. I think I did it 3 times and his cradle cap was completely gone. It takes a few washings to really get all the oil out of the hair, so she might be greasy for a while (depending on how much hair she has!), but hopefully it will be worth it in the end! Let us know if it works!
