Job one is to read " Breaking the Vicious Cycle, " by Elaine Gottschall. Meanwhile study the two websites in your welcome message and also posted under every message to the Yahoo list. www.pecanbread.com www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info Recipes are in the book and on pecanbread.com. There are additional recipe links on the other site. We have cakes, cookies, crackers, muffins, pancakes, ice cream and even pizza and " chips. " And their are some store bought items you can order on the Internet if you want them. We do the majority of our food preparation at home. GFCF allows some starches that we don't and excludes dairy. We have some very wholesome dairy and it is even healing. Those who cannot tolerate it don't need to have it. I suggest you study the websites and get back with more questions. Our files and database have information too an others will anser your questions. SCD restricts only certain types of carbs and doesn't limit the ones that are allowed although we encourage a well rounded diet so your carb addicted son will not be deprived. Only the bad and harmful gut bacteria will suffer. The beginning may be difficult but if you have patience you will likely be seeing good things happen. Carol F. Guest guest
Hi Kim, Yes, I think you'll find that SCD is easier in some respects. Although we have to do a lot of cooking from scratch, you can get into batch cooking and freezing extra portions. Just takes planning. I think there are a lot of pre-made products for GF/CF (I personally have not every done that diet) that can be convenient, but spendy. We don't have a lot of pre-made options... and do most of our shopping around the perimeter of the market (meat dept., produce dept., dairy dept.). You'll need a bigger fridge and a smaller pantry. If you're wondering what he'll eat, give these a try. You will be AMAZED that there is zero flour in them! Make sure the banana is ripe.... ( " brown spots all around, no green to be seen " is my motto). Any carb-loving pancake addict will LOVE 'em. BANANA PANCAKES -from BTVC (Breaking the Vicious Cycle) 1 ripe banana 1 egg Butter for frying Beat ingredients together. Drop on a greased pan and brown over medium heat. Turn and brown other side. Serve hot with honey syrup (honey diluted w/ water and heated). ____________ Right this minute, I am eating a peanut butter cookie from BTVC... right out of the freezer. Ooooohhh.... better than just about anything. Oh, and don't worry.... LOTS of SCD kids were former carb & sugar addicts! best, Patti, mom to Katera ----- Original Message ----- <<So, I am ready go give this SCDiet a go.
