Guest guest
Hi Janice: I don't do this myself as i find I don't have the time and wonder if the time necessary to do this is worth the return on your investment. However, I'd compare flour to almond flour. Skippy to the organic peanut or other butters. Pricy olive/safflower or other oils to Wesson. White sugar to Honey. Coconut oil or Spectrum Palm oil to butter or crisco. Organic spices to plain. Any applegate products like hot dogs or cold cuts to a similar non scd brand. If you do this, I'm sure lots of people would like to know if it was worth the time involved. I know I would! Good Luck Tracey Janice Crabtree wrote: Last year I kept meticulous records about the difference in price between regular foods and GF/CF/SF substitutes. It is much more difficult to keep records with this diet. Do others on this list keep track of food expenses for tax purposes? If so, do you record the difference in price between things like honey and sugar? What types of things do you compare besides the obvious (almond flour!!! so expensive). Guest guest
To claim expenses for diet, does one need to file a diagnosis with the government first? Here in Canada, yes, a celiac diagnosis is required. The irony is I never was tested and to do so I believe one must be eating illegals. I have a letter from my doctor saying I have followed a diet for celiac symptoms, but I decided not to request a tax deduction as I bake infrequently and nut flour is the most costly celiac substitution. > > Carol F. Our medical records are full of dxs, labs and such, so that if we were audited we could easily prove the medical conditions exist. We have yet to be audited and have claimed these expenses for 3 years. Janice
Guest guest
Hi Janice, I am in an Multiple Chemical Sensitivities group. There was some information given on how to cover expenses. The taxes were filed by this person, she was audited, and won! I am not ready to do it yet, but plan to start next year or at least in August of '06. Please be prepared for the IRS to fight you, but as long as you have a diagnosis and can prove you need these foods, you might be fine, I am no tax person!
