insurance question for MD'ers and northern VA folks

Hi,

I know people have already answered this question but if you have had the

MGB, live in the MD or Washington DC area can you please post your insurance

company and you experience with them. I currently have Optimum CHoice

(MAMSI, MDIPA) and am considering changing to BCBS of MD. DOn't know if

they would be any better. I found a flat exclusion of all treatment for

morbid obesity.

BCBS in Northern VA excludes all weight loss and obisity treatment

EXCEPT Gastric Bypass or gastric Stapling. Look under section 7,

General Exclusions (go figure!)

Hi :

I live in land and have BC/BS Federal and they will cover gastric

bypass if it is medically necessary. However, they will not do

precertification any longer. So you just have to go and get the

surgery and hope your medical claim proves it's medically necessary.

I know that Flo and Drema from land both also have BC/BS Federal

and they had no problems. Hope that helps some.
