Guest guest
Hi , the report will help a lot. I thought you said your children had more of a brachy head shape (am I mixing you up with someone?). If it is brachy the diagonal measurements won't help assess the severity. As I said my daughter started at 4.5 mm. We would not have banded for that (and it was only corrected to 3.5 mm). Her problem was brachy - flat in back with a lot of extra width (some babies have extra height too). If it is brachy you need to know the cephalic index (also called cranial raitio) to assess the severity. This is the difference between the width of the head and the length of the head. Normal is about 78%. -christine sydney 2 yrs starband grad > > > > > > > > > > > > Has anyone gone to Nouveau Prosthetics in Hazlet, NJ recently? > > > > > > I'm a mother of 2 10 months old twin boys. Guest guest
Hi , Thank you for the information! I'll definitely try to get the report and find out about their cephalic index. According to the specialist at CT, she thinks that they are more of a brachy case. Their heads are pretty flat in the back. But since they have more hair now, it doesn't bother me as much as the asymmetrical face. One side of their face is bigger and higher than the other side. The most concerning thing for me is that now even the shape of the eyes are getting different. The orthotist Joe at Nouveau Prosthetics didn't specify whether they are plagio or brachy. He did mention that they have some curve and their heads are not very triangular. I guess they might have a little bit of both. Since I had no clue what to look for, I only paid attention to the numbers Joe pointed out to me today. Guest guest
Hi , I looked at the pics and I do see extra width on the boys. Brachy can be less of a concern becuase the face is often uneffected. However fitting sports helmets, glasses etc in the future can be an issue. Our specialist (cranio facial plastic surgeon) recommends banding with a cephalic index of 90 or above. My daughter was in the high 90's so for us the decision was pretty easy. If you get the starscan report the number should be on there. Here is a link to sydney's scan: http://health.ph./group/Plagiocephaly/photos/view/e3a c?b=51 & m=f & o=0 You can see her head went from 96 to 85% (CR is the cranial ration, multiply by 100 to get the %). Also you can see that nearly all the new growth while in her band (red line) was in the back - which is what improved the overall shape. -christine sydney 2 yrs starband grad > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Has anyone gone to Nouveau Prosthetics in Hazlet, NJ > > recently? > > > > > > > > I'm a mother of 2 10 months old twin boys.
