Hello ,

Thank you for the explanation. I have read about the procedures

before but your description was particularly clear and

straightforward. As I have a high cancer risk with my CP (it's

hereditary; I am 58 and have had symptoms all my life), I have

discussed monitoring with my specialists. No one test is accurate

but the EUS and ERCP along with CT scans and the tumour marker blood

test make up the four that can be used together in an attempt to

monitor for pancreatic cancer.

I have my doubts about the ERCP as it can irritate the pancreas and

induce an attack. It would seem pointless to undertake it for

monitoring purposes unless it was going to be done reasonably

frequently and regularly. This does rather pose questions! My gastro

is against it but my panc specialist/surgeon is more in favour. I

have no idea of the relative merits of the EUS and ERCP for this

particular purpose. I suspect, from what I've read, that different

types/location/stages of panc cancer might be visible with each test

but I'm by no means sure of details. All this is going to be

discussed at my next appointment, currently scheduled for July,

unless I want an earlier one of course. I had the blood test and CT

scan before Christmas.

Thanks again for the lesson!

With good wishes,

Fliss
