Guest guest
> Dear , This is why I started this thread. It is important for > all of us to realize that gut dysbiosis and a visious cycle in > contrbuting to many of these strange sensitivites. What also happens is a compromised immune system regards even friendly things as dangerous sometimes and when it reacts to something we are not allergic to, we start trying to chase down sensitivities and start eliminating foods. The problem is that the results can be inconsistent. It becomes the needle-in-the haystack search. Example: Junior is suspected of being allergic to eggs. After a short time on SCD, he is able to tolerate them. later he has a setback or a cold and a little relapse and suddenly eggs are again a problem food. Weeks later the eggs are OK. Overall as healing progresses many sensitivities lessen and some disappear (with me it happened to be eggs).Occasionally I am " off " with dairy or nuts and give them a short rest. Carol F. Guest guest
>>>After this age, one may be dealing with permanent disability and permanent damage, but still CAN BENEFIT GREATLY from SCDiet! <<< Maybe, maybe not. I don;t feel that Hunter has is suffering from permanent disabiity from starting SCD later, although we do utilize vitamin and mineral supplements and enzymes as well. He didn't start until 51/2 and is doing fab. Summer Summer's Family, SCD 08/04 http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/openblooms/ --------------------------------- Talk is cheap. Use Yahoo! Mimi has mentioned many times that it is important to get a child on SCD early. As they age it becomes more difficult. I never read that five was the crucial age and would like to learn more from your source of the post. The second point is about older people losing sensitivities more slowly-- I have been told celiac is the most difficult to heal. Jodi Bager (J. Gourmet) has UC and can take back foods more often than Lass (her co-author of Grain-Free Gourmet) is celiac and like me has to be more careful. Perhaps that's why I am not healed . As long as I am watchful, there are long stretches of remission. I also never heard that all children do better without supplements and enzymes. What I have always said is I personally have not taken many (I do use acidophilus sometimes) and happen to be one who is able to go mostly by the book. But I have come to understand that this is not the case for everyone.(Nothing is the case for everyone:-) Elaine is very clear about continuing helpful medication with the goal of hopefully being able to eventually taper it down and in some cases be able to do away with it altogether under medical supervision. She also approved of enzymes and supplements that help. She did not want parents to get stressed over them and over expensive testing. Carol F. The thing is Antoinette that you very often say you don't use alternatives and it seems to imply that others will do better without them. We both agree they are not only permitted here but we have a legal and illegal list as a guide. Don't stress, I will get the link from Mimi tomorrow. I am weak in the autism area. > Carol F.
