Guest guest
Well it seems my son has brachy as well and very mild plagio from rading this. To me his head is flat and then you can also are the diagonal flatness which makes it asymmetrical. Can someone comment on our numbers? His w/l is 96%. Is it just a simple ratio for the cranial index? Why wouldn't they tell me that. I was told the official diagnosis is plagio. 2/5/09: circumference=45.8 cm, width=13.4, length=13.9, right front to left back=14.5, left front to right back=14(this means a cranial vault index of 5 mm, which is mild)2/18/09: circ.=45.8, width=13.5, length=13.9, right front to left=14.6, left front to right=14(this is a cranial vault index of 4 mm)From: "Foley, Molly" Date: Tue, 24 Feb 2009 08:10:11 -0800<Plagiocephaly >Subject: RE: [sPAM] What do my numbers mean? Guest guest
You are correct, your son does have brachy, much more than plagio. 2/5 - brachy = cranial width/cranial length - 13.4/13.9=96% plagio=right front to left back - left front to right back - 14.5-14 = .5 cm or 5 mm 2/18 - brachy = cranial width/cranial length - 13.5/13.9=97% plagio=right front to left back - left front to right back - 14.6-14 = .6 cm or 6 mm Brachycephaly Severity: ideal ratio - 78% normal - 73-83% moderate - 83.1% to 87.9% severe - 88% and higher Plagio Severity: 0-3 mm is normal <6 mm is very mild 6-10 mm is mild 10-15 mm is moderate 15+ mm is severe Is your child in a band yet? Guest guest
He just started today with a Boston band from Nopco at Childrens in Boston. The orthoist said The Star Band is the same type of helmet as the Boston Band, it is just made by another company. They used to use them before they started making their own. From: "moligan2001" Date: Tue, 24 Feb 2009 17:08:14 -0000<Plagiocephaly >Subject: Re: [sPAM] What do my numbers mean? Guest guest
Yes, you are right about the ratios. As for the terms, I was originally told that had plagio and even our referral to the specialist said so. I wonder if plagio is kind of the generic term that some use to describe any shape abnormalities in the head. You would think that the specialist would give you the correct term. That's where we heard it first. To this day, the ped refers to it as plagio. , mom to , 18 months 14 weeks in STARband plus CST land nervous and confused in Boston> > > > > > > > > > > > > > We got my son's helmet on Wednesday but waited until today to > > start. Guest guest
I called my dr and orthotist and was told that they use plagio as all encompassing diagnosis and I even got a Greek eytmology lesson from them. What bugs me is that even tho the plagio, as we use it on this group, is mild, the brachy is severe and no one addressed that at my consult. I'm just going to keep repeating myself to them to get them to tell me that they are addressing both issues. We've been in the band for 12 hours now.
