Guest guest
Hi , That thought about an allergic reaction has crossed my mind. So far the closest to my face that the rash has gotten is the back of my head. I haven't noticed any other signs of impending anaphylaxis yet, but I know it can be quick and unexpected. I have alerted my husband to this being a possible allergic reaction, so we are set in what to do. But at this time, I am too hesitant to react too rashly (no pun intended) as this is the first med that has made me feel like a real human again. If possible, maybe I can bargain with the doc to let me carry an epi pen in case I have a bad reaction. In that case I will have to stop taking it I guess. Oh, I am pretty sure it is from the kadian - most likely the time release matrix - as I have had no rash type reaction from the IV injections. And I have had multiple exposures to IV morphine over the past 4 years. I check in with the doc on Monday and if it is still there then, I will bring it to her attention. But for now, I am keeping my fingers crossed that it will go away as my body gets used to the meds. Thanks for bringing this up - it is something to be concerned about but I figure so much other things have happened that I can't be denied the one med that makes things better - fate just wouldn't do that to me! Guest guest
In reading your reply there are somethings about allergic reaction that I wanted you to know. You mentioned that the rash wasn't near your face, I don't understand, that has nothing to do with an anaphylactic reaction, a true allergic reaction is a histamine response, it is systemic (the entire system) Also the amount of times a person is exposed to a substance has nothing to do with the reaction that can occur, actually if you have been exposed frequently it is more likely for a person to have a reaction. A good example of this is ragweed and pollen, people have exposures and don't even know it, but after time the body developes a sensitivity to it and then they get itchy watery eyes (this is a histamine reaction and why the Dr. gives them anti-histamines) the next example would be posion ivy some people get a rash others their whole body swells up, and some times their eyes sometimes their airway it has nothing to do with touching the plant truely sensitive people only have to be down wind from the plant, or near someone who has accidently brushed against it. I hope this helps someone prevent having a life threatening situation. Atwell LPN
