Congratulations on the graduation.

It'd be nice to see some before pictures. Did you happen to think to take any? I know that I didn't think to take any of prior to her starting CST, but I'd started reading online before the helmet so I do have some before helmet pictures. Looking back, I wish I'd gotten some better angles of her head.

The view from the side looks pretty good, but I do still see the widening and the assymetry from the top. Your daughter was 1 week younger than when she got her STARband so I understand the whole thing about wishing you could get more correction than you did. Did they push you to take her out or did you agree that she probably wouldn't change much more? is 18 months old today and so we expect the amount of growth to slow down, but I'm crossing my fingers that it won't.

What are her before and after numbers? I guess that I'm a number person so I like to know.

I'm trying to focus on the improvement that we've gotten that we wouldn't have if we didn't band her, even though it isn't full correction. I took more pictures of 's head on Sunday night - 6 weeks after the last set and I feel dissapointed that I don't see much difference. It does look like there is more rounding from the side view, but the top view looks pretty much the same. They say that change will depend upon a growth spurt and since she's so small anyway, we've been focusing on getting a lot of calories into her these last few months. Well, it seems to have helped. She's up to 22 pounds on my scale and that brings her up from the 10th to between the 10th and 25th percentiles AND she's graduated into the 12 to 18 month sizes. We're hoping that her head will also jump in growth. I'm hopoing to convince my orthotist to leave in her band the whole 6 months and the best way to do this is to show that her head is still growing. Did Ella not grow from 18 to 19 months? will be 18 months 3 weeks at her next scan.

Now that you're done with the band, have you considered doing anything else, like CST to see if more improvement might follow. I'm not sure whether that's an option for you and whether that would continue to help at this age. Or, are you ready to just be done?

Anyway, try not to focus too much on what's not perfect. Congratulate yourself for doing something and getting the improvement that you did. I know - it's easier said than done (for me too).

Ella graduated!

Just wanted everyone to know that after 4 rough months, Ella hasgraduated! 10.24.08-2.20.09 14.5-19 months. She still has a slight flat right side and slight bulging on thesides, but her forehead bulging is gone. I of course as her mommadon't think it's good enough, but she hadn't changed any in a month. Please take a peek into the older plagio photo album and tell me yourhonest opinion. I'd really appreciate it!~Kristi~ mother of Ella~Starband Graduate!!

There are before and after pictures in the older plagio gallery. All

under Ella. I also just posted them in my blog if that would be

easier. http://scrappinnelly.blogspot.com/

Our orthotist was very uneducated, so we did not get numbers. He took

pics, but lost them, so all we have is what I took for pics. I feel

it could maybe have improved a little more if she went through another

growth spurt, but nothing happened in a little over a month. She was

getting very crabby and not fitting in her helmet so well anymore, so

we just decided to be done. God made her the way she is for a reason

and we need to except that. It's better than it was, and hopefully

that is enough for Ella some day. It's been a long journey!

If I had to do it again, I'd have not listened to the peds that tell

you to wait it out and it will " round itself " and I would have

traveled to a bigger, better town that specialized in helmets. But

too late! I am SO HAPPY it's over! :)

Thanks for sharing those pictures. As long as you're happy with the results and she is happier out of the helmet, then it sounds like a time to celebrate.

I read your blog and what you experienced is very similar to me in that I got a wake up call at about a year old. In our case, the idea of a helmet wasn't even presented as an option until then. I could kick myself for not doing the research earlier. Now, we are in the waiting game to see how much growth will occur now that she is 18 months old.
