Guest guest
Hi, I used some of those medicated topicals this past year on him; they weakened him. He was a sick little baby. I never use them ever anymore. The main things were giving up ALL grains, which SCD does; for me rice was the last to go (not willingly LOL). It was worth it. The biggest change came from giving him cod liver oil. I use the kind from Green Pastures (it's very good quality). He cleared up so well after this. He gets 1/2t/day, mixed with the rest of his supps. I also take 3t/day (I have other medical issues) & since he's nursing he probably benefits as well. I had been juicing carrots everyday, but stopped a few weeks ago. I've noticed I don't feel as well & have very little energy compared to when I was juicing. He also has a small eczema spot back on his chin. I want to start juicing again & see because I think it is also a major piece of the healing puzzle for us. I can't return the Brainchild becz I got it from my son's nutritionist. They are going away for a couple of weeks too & I don't think they carry the " legal " one on the list. I use the zinc too but noticed that's okay. Thanks for your help, Michele > > First off, let me ask you about what you're giving your baby for the eczema. > My 1yr. old battled with it on his feet for months now. Guest guest
Hi Meleah, I'm happy to help if I can! His eczema was awful; all over him at one point. Then after getting rid of dairy & most grains (just me; he was only nursing then) it was only his face affected. The juicing & me stopping eating rice cleared up most of his face, although not all. The CLO made the last bit of difference. I take many EFAs myself. I take GLA Forte by Metagenics (from my son's nutritionist). It has 240mg gamma-linolenic acid & I take 2/day. I also take a DHA by Thorne for baby; it has 250mg DHA from algae oil & I take 1/day. My holistic practioner thought I could give the baby a GLA himself but I haven't done that yet. The Green Patures CLO we both take, as well as my daughter. I noticed it cleared an eczema patch that would not go away on her arm. it took a week of so of taking CLO, but finally started to fade & go away! (She's off dairy & wheat). Green Patures is metal free & high premium; the one I've been using is " arctic mint " . Not sure if that's scd legal but there are a couple of other flavors available, or unflavored too I think. The stats on the back are as follows: 5750 IUs vit A 575 IUs vit D 145-375 mg EPA 150-360 mg DHA It says to give 1/4t to those under 4, but both my daughter (4yrs) & my baby (1yr now) get 1/2 t & are doing great on it. I take 3t myself & mix it in my morning smoothie. My daughter takes it straight (believe it or not!). For the baby I mix a concoction of his vits: a sprinkle of vit C, some arabinogalactin, Transfer Factor (2 - 3), a ProBio Gold, & a Sacc B cap & a little bit of BarleyMax green supplement. Then I mix in the CLO. To this I used to add a little of a freshly juiced carrot; I didn't give that to him straight. I would save a little to mix into his baby food later on as well & that's how he took that. I'd drink the carrot juice myself with apple or pear, but I'm going to have to figure out how to juice so the others like it w/o the apple & pear (they liked it that way!). I also have a wonderful cream I can recommend; it's from Australia & was worth ordering: Hosking's (03) 9379-7797 http://www.hoskingspharmacy.com/index.html I use their Psorexederm Cream - it is excellent!! It is actually water resistent for drooling etc, so it penetrated his skin nicely without irritation & was so healing! I use it every night & sometimes during the day if he has an outbreak. I think SCD will be SO good for the family becz now that he's all over the floor he's picking up crumbs from his brothers' & sister's snacks which are not good (corn, rice etc). Good to get rid of those soon hopefully! Anyway here are the ingredients for the Psorexederm: coal tar solution 5% zinc oxide 140mg Vit A 52 IU Vit D 8 IU antifungal boric acid 1.5mg lanolin Not sure if these are scd legal but I'm going to keep using it for now anyway; it's been well worth it for us. They also have a nice hypoallergenic soothing face & body balm that I use for him a lot. It comes lavendar scented or unscented & works nicely for soothing the eczema. The other above clears it better though. Neither are irritating; I can testify to that. We went through many months of crying in pain due to me cleaning his terrible rashes & putting horrid creams on that only hurt him more :-((. Poor little guys! I hope this helps! Best, Michele > >> > >> First off, let me ask you about what you're giving your baby for > > the eczema. > >> My 1yr. old battled with it on his feet for months now. Guest guest
To eradicate eczema in my baby, I had to completely remove all dairy (from both his diet and mine since I'm breastfeeding), and I had to give him 1/2 tsp of CLO daily. That cleared the eczema in about a week, and reduced his cradle cap over the next couple months to almost nothing. Before that, we were topically " treating " the eczema by rubbing his skin with A & D diaper ointment every morning and evening. This worked surprisingly well, but of course the eczema always came back because we hadn't yet addressed the underlying cause. mom to , 14 mths, ASD SCD 2 wks > > , > I am still nursing, and starting taking a DHA supplement from Nordic > Naturals a few weeks ago. Guest guest
Unfortunately what we found is that we had to cut out ALL sources of the dairy protein, casein, not just obvious things like milk/cheese etc. For us, not even goat yogurt is a possibility. My kiddo has all sorts of problems from any source of casein (other than breastmilk) -- ear infections, spaciness, eczema, constant illness, and just a worsening of his autism in general. But that's just us, not all kids are quite *that* sensitive to dairy. How old is your baby, out of curiousity, and when did the eczema start? Is he or she breastfed? Eggs could be a problem if the baby is sensitive to them -- they are a very common allergen -- but I'm not aware of a connection between eggs and eczema as that wasn't a problem for us. You could always cut eggs for two weeks and see if you notice any improvements. mom to , 14 mths, ASD SCD 2 wks > >> > >> , > >> I am still nursing, and starting taking a DHA supplement from Nordic > >> Naturals a few weeks ago. Guest guest
> > What is CLA CLA is conjugated linoleic acid. Interesting stuff and worth a google, imo. However, I believe the post you were referring to mentioned " CLO " , which would be Cod Liver Oil. -christine
Guest guest
I wrote a lengthy reply to this this morning, but for some reason it never went through, so I'm sorry about that. I started by taking out dairy, but that only helped minimally. I was disappointed becz it helped my daughter & I didn't have to go any further with her. With the baby, I found he is very sensitive to potatoes, & I had to eliminate ALL grains from my diet. Once the rice went (last one) he did look much better. Then I added 1/2t CLO, & that seemed to help enormously as well; he is totally clear most days now. The only time he starts a breakout on his chin is when he's been on the floor a lot (my kids tend to drop crumbs & they are not off grains - yet). I also take 3t CLO myself. The baby is on other supps as well & so am I. We're both on powerful probiotics. I also use a special natural cream from: http://www.hoskingspharmacy.com/index.html It's from Australia, & did more for him than any medicated stuff which I wouldn't touch again. I would think it's SCD legal, but you'd have to check as you'd know better then me at this point. The Psorexederm Cream is excellent; it did help heal my son's face, but only after the underlying causes were relieved (through diet & CLO). Juicing fresh carrots helped us a lot too. I haven't juiced in over 2 weeks & I'm feeling the effects. Hope I've helped some, Michele > >> > >> First off, let me ask you about what you're giving your baby for > > the eczema. > >> My 1yr. old battled with it on his feet for months now. Guest guest
My 14 mth old has also been breastfed since birth, and didn't get any dairy directly until he was 11 months old. But around 7 months old he started developing eczema all over his face and body. Eczema can be a very delayed reaction to a dietary intolerance, very often dairy among other things. Allergy is one thing, and intolerance or sensitivity is another. Intolerances and sensitivities show up in much more subtle ways, such as eczema, ear infections, bowel issues, behavior, etc. Your mileage may vary with regard to the eczema, but eczema is related to dairy issues so often that it's almost always worth a shot. It's very important to note that if you are breastfeeding a child with a dairy sensitivity, you will need to remove ALL dairy from your own diet. The milk protein casein very definitely goes through breastmilk. You would not believe the reaction my kiddo had when I removed it from my diet. Within two nursing sessions, he went into withdrawal like a heroin addict. It was something else. I needed no further proof. I have since learned from many other breastfeeding moms of sensitive kids that it is safe to assume that almost everything you eat goes through your breastmilk to some degree. That's why I'm doing SCD right along with my son. If I'm not SCD, then neither is he, for as long as I continue to breastfeed him. I hope this helps! mom to , 14 mths, ASD SCD 2 wks > > Mark is 15 months. The eczema started in early April, or maybe late > March. Guest guest
Hi Meleah, I did already have dairy & grains cut out when I started him on the CLO & upped my dosage, so maybe that all helped.
