Guest guest
Thanks for your help. The orthotist did the measurements by hand (with a ruler-type thing). The band is a locally made one similar to a Starband. Right now, he's been out of the helmet for over a week due to a staph infection (that is healing). We're off to the pediatrician later today and hopefully he'll get the go-ahead to get the helmet re-adjusted and get him back in it. > > > > > > > > > > Maybe this has been discussed before. Guest guest
There was another parent in this group no so long ago whose son also had a staph infection from the helmet. I remember that she had a really hard time and ended up switching to a DOC band. She has to take Angel Flights to get to her appointments. You might want to do a search for "staph infection" and see what you can read about it.LeilaMaysa, 13 months old, week 3 in DOC band 2http://mymaysa.wordpress.com/ From: mwschizer <mwschizer@...>Subject: Re: Brachy and Plagio measurements/numbersPlagiocephaly Date: Tuesday, February 24, 2009, 10:38 AM Thanks for your help. Guest guest
It looks like a combination of plagio and brachy and the numbers you have given seem on target for what his head looks like. Guest guest
To me, it does look like he also has brachy in addition to plagio. At first, I was almost certain that my daughter only had plagio because all I could focus on was the fact that the back of her head wasn't symmetrical. When I took her for measurements to Orthomerica and after CT took profile pictures of her, it became very obvious to me that she also had brachy and that her brachy was more severe than her plagio. Take a look at my daughter's pictures and measurements from her blog so you can compare: http://mymaysa.wordpress.com/4-6-months/ As a matter of fact, while her plagio is now resolved, we are still working on bringing her brachy number down a little more. Guest guest
No, I would say Judah has textbook plagio, flat on the left. That should be the primary focus of his band treatment (if he is or will be banded). Guest guest
I just looked at Judah's picture, and he really looks a lot like my son did. Unfortunately I don't have a before picture because, fortunately, the band worked too fast! Our measurements were 11mm asymmetry and 94% CI. By the time we got the band the CI was down to 91%---I don't know how, but apparently that's what happened. We've had the Starband for 6 weeks and so far it's just corrected the asymmetry, which sort of makes sense to me if I draw a picture of what parts are filling out. Now I'm hoping that the band will be trimmed in a way as to hit to CI. Good luck to you! How old is Judah? > > > > Thanks for your help. Guest guest
He's 7.5 months now. Started the band a month ago, but has been out of it for the last two weeks due to an infection and will get back into it on Friday. We'll get measurements again then. His pediatrician saw him yesterday, though, and said it looked like his head had improved some since he saw him almost 2 months ago (when he sent us to the neurosurgeon who then prescribed the band). > > > > > > Thanks for your help.
