Guest guest
Could some of you who have more experience explain a little about the pulmonary testing the CF kids get? What FEV values etc. are considered acceptable or needs improvement. I know its all relative in the view that you want the child to maintain the current level of lung fuction but I can't find out where the child should be. jan
Guest guest
PFT test results are really confusing. The PFT percentages are a measure against a test group of people that do not have CF. The test group is different based on the age of the child. The Columbus CF Care center does not consider anything less than a 10% shift to be " clinically significant " . The Infant PFT was developed by Dr. Kasteal (spelling?). He is located at the Columbus CF Care Center. He used his infant son in his early PFT tests. My grand daughter had a PFT today. She is 18 months. My daughter asked the pulmonogist to explain the numbers, but didn't get a good explanation. It must be pretty complex. From what I understand, there are a number of " percentages " that they track. They look at the relationship of all of the numbers, to see any changes in the lung function.
