Guest guest
Generally speaking, meat takes less time time than any other food to be processed. This can be witnessed in the difference of the length of the intestines in meat eaters. Meat eaters have far less intestine and appear lithe and thinner than plant eaters. (picture a cheetah, lion, wolf compared to a rhino, hippo, zebra (etc.) However, that being said, like all other foods, some people cannot tolerate meat at all. It simply makes them ill. We are very big meat eaters in our house (and seem to require large amounts of it). However, I do know people that cannot tolerate even the smallest amounts or they feel sick to their stomach. I know a couple of people who cannot tolerate chicken but can tolerate beef, pork and fish. Like everything else in SCD, it is a personal trial that will tell you which direction you need to go. Guest guest
Dear , It is my experience, that meat is the only thing that we truly have tolerated well in this house. Even Elaine and Dr. Haas expressed that meat digestion and the digestion of proteins are usually not the issue with those of us with GI problems and problems with malabsorption. It is the digestion of complex carbohydrates that causes this problem. When the vicious cycle is put into check, it is amazing how fast the human gut can digest meat. What causes the delay of digestion in some of us...is when the gut remains sick....and the vicious cycle is allowed to remain. When the gut heals, it secrets enzymes like it was suppose to (assuming that pancreatic function is normal). By the bodies innate ability to produce the proper enzymes, Meat is broken down into amino acids and smaller fractions, and is absorbed by the blood stream for metabolism and catabolism. Once the gut gets back into balance eating SCD....the bad guys can't eat anything much....they starve to death...or they are crowded out or put back into check by the good guys (thanks to legal probiotics, yogurt and the use of acidophilus). It is my understanding from being at Pecan Bread, that when the other bad gut guys die...yeast can not live...it depends on the bad gut guys for it's survival. No bad gut guys...no yeast (or less yeast!) YEAH! This imbalance is put into check starting with the SCD introduction diet, which causes a " die off " reaction of bad gut guys (in most of us)....the complete process can take up to one year to two...depending on how sick and out of balanced your intestines are...each month coming closer and closer to returned health and a gut in better balance. Hope this helps, Antoinette and entire family of five (celiac/malabsorption/leaky gut/add/adhd/asd/and more) SCD 2/06 meat My son will be starting the SCD tomorrow.
