Guest guest
Hello everyone, When I was first diagnosed with CP, my gastro told me to go on a low fat diet....around 50 grams a day but not much less because of vitamin issues. It seems that vitamins will be in short supply or, rather, not properly absorbed, if the fat content of the diet is too low. He referred me to a pancreatologist (surgeon) to hear about the surgery option. The pancreatologist advised as normal a diet as possible with up to 100 grams of fat a day, IF I could take it. He increased the dosage of Creon to cope with this. I have to say that it seems to work for me. The point I really wanted to make was that I lost weight when on the low fat diet. I was NEVER hungry because I made up in carbs for the fats of which I was then taking such low amounts. When I increased the fats again, I regained the lost 8 or 9 lbs almost as quickly as I'd lost them. For the first time in my life, I was glad to put on weight. Up to then, I had been an avid dieter all my life, always trying to lose weight. Ironically, I found a really easy way (low fat)at a moment in my life when weight loss had become, at best, irrelevant and, at worst, something I now wanted to avoid. C'est la vie! Best wishes all, and " Hello! " to Henry whom I didn't know until to- day! Welcome back! I've been using this wonderful board for several months since soon after my diagnosis in May. Hope you and everyone continue to enjoy the hols. Fliss
