Guest guest
, You asked: <<Should I drip the yogurt so it is less runny (or is that only done as a personal preference or to make the cream cheese)?>> This makes it taste less tart... and have a thicker consistancy. I don't know that it's any more or less effective. I guess, theoretically, it might be more concentrated after being dripped. <<should I hold off on adding honey or fruit? I'm thinking it would be more effective in killing bad gut bugs w/o fruit or honey.>> Cooked fruit and honey are perfectly legal on SCD. If yeast is a huge problem, Elaine suggested using honey in smaller quantities. That would be up to you, depending on your child. Will he eat it plain? A little vanilla and honey certainly improves the taste. My daughter likes mashed ripe banana mixed in hers.... or a spoonful of nut butter and a little honey. I'm assuming from your answer that " standard " protocol is to drip and then to add honey, fruit, etc. May I suggest that you consider adding those 2 items as steps 12 and 13 on the Beginner's Guide on How to Make Yoghurt (link below). http://breakingtheviciouscycle.info/beginners_guide/yoghurt/yog_pict_gu ide.html I know they are listed in separate places in the Beginner's Guide but it would be helpful for people like me to see all 13 steps in 1 spot. Just a suggestion. Anyway, mine is now dripping in the fridge. As I slowly increase the quantity I give him, I may add a touch of honey and banana. Since I made 2 quarts in 1 container, I figure I'll just spoon out what I need and mix honey, etc. when it's time to eat rather than mix it into the entire batch. I just want to be cautious about adding stuff so I know what it is he might be reacting to. BTW, on a bit I ate this morning I added just a drop of vanilla and some cinnamon and it was delicious. Thank you for your help.
