Guest guest
Amy, That sounds like a brilliant plan. Other families have seen a new boost of improvement after going back to re-do the intro diet and sort of " starting over " . Since you've never done intro at all, I'm hopeful that you will see good things. You didn't say how long he's been on SCD?? I think it's a good idea to stop all the supps for a while. I like your " clean slate " idea. Go over ALL the supplements with a fine-toothed comb and make sure there are no illegals in them. I don't exactly know how long you should wait before reintroducing them. You might need to watch and wait. Maybe a month? More? If you're suspicious of yeast, after intro you might want to try the carrot juice and garlic thing... if you think he would accept it. This was something another list mom suggested a couple of years back that she says worked better than any other yeast remedy she's tried for her sons. She used fresh carrot juice (home-juiced)... 4 oz of it, with one clove of garlic pressed into it. I don't see any reason why you couldn't put the garlic clove down the chute with the carrots. That's what I've done. Anyway, she said to give one 4 oz glass of this concoction a couple of times a day. I don't remember for how long. I've only managed to do it for one week at a time. It might depend on the child. Obviously, you need to buy or borrow a juicer to try this. Yes, I think introducing dairy.... in the form of SCD goat yogurt... would be a brilliant move. Maybe a month or so down the road. I don't see any reason why not to do the fizzy water, if that's what he's familiar with. It's just plain mineral water or sparkling water, right? Guest guest
Dear Amy, We also started to have problems with too many factors getting in the way of our success with SCDiet TM. So we went back to the BTVC book. I reread it and highlighted it! We too started over with intro and dropped all the enzyems, and other DAN! suggested protocols. If Elaine didn't promote it we descided to not use it. TAlk about TRUST. We kept the B12, and vitamins, becasue Elaine promotes it. WE are now having remarkable success with " just " SCD TM. The DAN! was frustrated with us at first, but now is truly amazed at the success we are having with our autistic daughter with " just " SCDiet We truly are having success with the goat yogurt in fighting the yeast problem. WE too came with a phobia about dairy and thrush, coated tongues and odd behaviors. We are now glad we threw that notion about dairy, and trusted those who talked us into using SCD allowed yogurts. It truly seems to be the trick with getting the " bad gut out, " and getting the " good gut guys " into balance. Thankfuly, for what ever reasons, our son's hyper spaz attacks and rages, are a thing of our past. WE had holes in the walls that we had to plaster! no joke. Heck we now can eve eat cow yogurt with no ill affect. Hope this helps, Antoinette (celiac) mom to -5 (celiac/was adhd/rages) and Kiki-2 (celiac/autistic/now talking)and Bubbles-1 (hyperekplexia now vanishing) SCD 2/
Guest guest
>> We kept the B12, and vitamins, becasue Elaine promotes it. May I ask what form of B12? Methy-B12 shots, nasal spray, or oral supplements? I am getting ready to start SCD with my ASD son and want to start right. I use enzymes and am a bit worried about going enzyme-free. My son's digestive symptoms that he had when younger are pretty much gone so I am mostly interested in behavioral improvements and sensory improvements (being less picky of an eater and having a more varied diet) and better general health (he is no longer his skinny pre-enzyme self; quite the opposite, but has low energy and is easily fatigued). And unseen digestive improvements, though I know not what is going on that is not manifesting itself physically. mother of Adam
Guest guest
Thank you (and Patti) for responding to my Starting Over post. My book has disappeared. I loaned it out and never got it back. So, I have ordered a new copy from amazon. While I'm waiting, I will stick with eggs, meat, juice and soup from the starter diet on the website. My son does not like cooked fruit, only raw. So, I will just hold off the fruit altogether for a while Patti asked how long we were scd. The truth is we did not begin with starter diet, then since he was doing so well, I have not been careful about infractions including random juices, and illegal carbs (corn, rice) here and there. Also, I'm sure that some supps are not entirely legal. Thanks for the support. Guest guest
Hijacking- I've noticed my daughter having a white tongue alot. Is that what you are talking about. Also, for the austistic kids are you doing dairy? It sounds like you are just following the book to a " t " and nothing else. The book does allow dairy (in limited ways of course). The DAN Dr. said no dairy of any kind in any way for these kids. I'm so confused! > > Dear Amy, We also started to have problems with too many factors > getting in the way of our success with SCDiet TM. So we went back > to the BTVC book. Guest guest
Last message: The DAN Dr. said no dairy of any kind in any way for these kids. I'm so confused! Dear List mate, Yes we use the SCD 24 hour goat yogurt from the start. WE came to SCD casein free too....very paranoid about the stuff, and rightly so. I am glad we trusted Elaine. Our DAN! thought me crazy too, until I showed him this: http://www.pecanbread.com/goatyogurt.html<http://www.pecanbread.com/goatyogurt.h\ tml>. You will read that Elaine said that the casein is denatured and thus " harmless " . When Undetnatured diary/casein causes a huge problem in those with damaged leay guts (this is wear the DAN! doctor is right). Yet most do not understand how SCD works. Some on Pecan Bread say to wait one month before introducing the yogurt. We truly didn't think we could wait. Our daughter was " starving " and becoming toooooo sick. We may have arrived at Pecan Bread with a kiddo sicker than some here. We wanted to break this vicious cycle sooner than later. Her mouth was just covered with thrush and coated tongue. I swear it was going down her esophagus! It was probably everywhere, inside and out. Even her head was covered with fungus/cradle cap/dandruff...I kid you not. Her bottom was always red and inflamed from yeasty stools....she had deliriums where she could not recognized who we where and they where lasting for over 45 minutes, and she had a few seizures too. I was scared and we wanted to move fast. BTVC didn't tell us to wait...so we didn't. Although I respect those who can wait, or want to wait. By practicing 100% SCD and using the yogurt it stopped all of this. Caused the die off of a life time! After this horrible transition, we knew we where on the right path. She got better and is continuing to heal. God Bless, Antoinette (celiac) mother to Kiki-2 (celiac/autistic) SCD 2/

We see one of the better known DANs who makes the conference rounds. When I asked about the goat yogurt she said she used to not think it would be possible to put in for the kids, but now she says definitely give it a try since it seems to be a key factor. She told us to try adding the yogurt after 3-6 months on the diet. We added it a bit sooner though. She also said some other really positive things about SCD. I don't feel comfortable directly quoting professionals without their permission about what they say in the confidentiality of an office visit regarding my child, but suffice it to say that she is 100% supportive and encouraging of SCD with the yogurt if tolerated.
