That's because the pancreas can go into " overdrive " after it has been manipulated. That's what happened to me after each of my ERCPs and the EUS pancreatic biopsy that I underwent years ago. Listed below is the link to an article from The Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology entitled " Can Somatostatin Prevent Post-ERCP Pancreatitis? Results of a Randomized Controlled Trial? " http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/468370?mpid=25405 This initial study involved the use of Somatostatin (Octreotide) which suppresses pancreatic secretions.
