Guest guest
, Nope its the Hib vaccination. It for haemophilus influenza, actually just stocked the fridge at work yesterday with the vaccines. It's for all 1-5 year olds free this year, next year its free for the 6-15 year old and the year after will mop up the ones who missed. (Australia) haemophilus influenza Are you sure she wasn't vaccinated against influenza (flu vaccine)? That is different than haemophilus influenza. I wasn't aware that there was a vaccine for the latter. M RE: Need advice on haemophilus influenza .... > Eilish cultured it over a year ago. All kids get vaccinated against it > here, so I was surprised.
Guest guest
Thanks, for clarifying. We DO have this vaccine in Canada for babies, as well ... now given as part of the Polio Diptheria Tetanus immunization. As soon as you said Hib, I remembered that Hib stands for Haemophilus influenzae Type B. It has been awhile since my kids had their immunizations and I always thought of Hib as a meningitis vaccine since that is the main scare they use to promote and explain it. So -is " Type B " the same type of strain that people with CF often culture in sputum? My son with CF cultured H. influenza as a preschooler, but if I recall, the vaccine wasn't available back then and he didn't receive it until he was in an older grade. Guest guest
Hib is Haemophilus influenza type B and that bug is different from the normal haemophilus influenza that our kids have to deal with. At least that was the answer I got when Fiona cultured h. flu for the first time. To add to the confusion there is another bug called Haemophilus parainfluenza. Guest guest
, I don't know for sure but I think it's different. I think I read there is a few different types. Eilish was already vaccinated when she got H.I. so maybe they are different strains. Our big push the last few years is the free meningococcal vaccinations. They are free for various age groups, but the 4 of us already had been vaccinated against it before they became free for the kids, wouldn't you know it.
