He showed me the mold of Chase's head. So it was definitly made for him..(it's not one of those small, med, large off the shelf things) I know that for sure, but it seems most people have the doc or starband..so I am worried that it wont work. although it seems to fit good and does'nt slide around or anything...I'm keeping my fingers crossed... As far as decorating it... you can peel off the stickers after the mod podge? I would just have to paint it over again? is that what you mean.. thanks again for your info...hopefully someone out there knows or has dealt with U of M... mom to 7 1/2 , Christian4 1/2 and Chase almost 7 months <nwilkens2275@...> wrote: Welcome - I do not recall anyone going to UofM before, but hopefully if there are, they will respond (I do remember one mom being from Michigan and wanting to decorate the helmet like UofM football, but I don't remember her having any concerns about the helmet or the brand so I don't know if she got it at the same place or not). Does the helmet you are getting have any type of brand name at all? There are other ones on the market, like Hanger and Danmar. Do they make the helmet right there at UofM, or do they send it away to some sort of corporate headquarters to be made there? Is it plastic with a foam liner (active) or just a plastic shell (passive)? It sounds like if they have a scanner to take an image of the head, it could be a more widely used brand name kind (definitely not DOC since those are only available at a Cranial Tech location). Scanners are pretty expensive (I'm assuming), so I don't think a small rinky-dink homemade band provider would have that kind of technology, so hopefully that is a good sign for you. As far as the painting, I paint my son's helmet every 3 weeks. The paint just peels off in big pieces and then you sort of have to pick at smaller pieces around the edges. So it's not super permanent. You just can't remove the stickers themselves once they've been stuck and covered with mod podge. They'll peel off the paint with them, and won't be reusable, so you'll have to start from scratch when you feel like changing the design. Good luck! Guest guest
That sounds like it is, in fact, an active band, meaning that adjustments are made (foam shaved out) to promote growth in the flat areas while holding the prominent areas in place.
