I really was concerned about that . . but , then why is it so strongly reccomended to drink 64 oz. of water everyday? That's quite true about people in other parts of the world! Thanks for the insight! : )
Guest guest
Hi Darlene, I had my surgery on 3/13/00. I was on 3 orals plus insulin at night before surgery. My blood sugars were running around 220-240 after surgery the first few weeks after surgery. I was on no meds. My local internist saw me at 2 weeks because I had developed gout and put me back on insulin. I am now nearly 5 months post op. I take 15-23 units of NPH insulin if my blood sugar is above 150 at night. I have started taking 1000 mg. of Glucophage with my evening meal. If I get my 2 mile walk in each day my evening and morning blood sugars are 120 with out anything except for the glucophage at the evening meal. My average blood sugar readings for the last 2 weeks are 122, and 134 for 30 days. I am quite pleased. My A1c was 8.0, 3 months after surgery. I am sure it will be down near 6 in September when I get it retested. I've lost 50 pounds and 13 inches alone on my waist. So hang in there. My local doctor didn't want me to go around with blood sugars that high after surgery, and they weren't coming down. I was only taking 26 units of NPH at night prior to surgery, so I would think you are going to need to have some very close monitoring for a while. I didn't want to risk damage to my kidneys and eyes while waiting for the weight loss to happen. Guest guest
Dear Betty, Thank you for that information on the blood sugars. Everyone is different and I will monitor my blood sugars and still follow up with my pcp. It is the very best thing we can do for the diabetes, that is what really motivated me to have the surgery. Continued Success Marjory > Hi Darlene, > > I had my surgery on 3/13/00. I was on 3 orals plus insulin at night > before surgery.
