Guest guest
Are you positive the constipation is from the glutathione? Some people with cf just have chronic constipation, my ds is one of them and it started when he was around 3, sometimes he has to take 3 daily rx just to be able to go ( Hugs, Deana glutathione and constipation > Is anyone else here using glutathione? Guest guest
, When folks first started inhaling gluthathione (GSH) one of the surprising side benefits they found was they could reduce enzymes. Back when we were first looking at inhaled GSH, because of the risk of bronchoconstriction in people with asthma, I decided it was safer for my son to try oral GSH. He started taking it in January '99. He said he felt better while taking it but couldn't articulate exactly " why " he felt better. He only takes one Pancrease with meals, but he found he could miss an enzyme without suffering any bad effects, which is nice when you're out with your college buddies and decide to hit the local pizza parlor. Eventually he stopped taking oral GSH because he was getting constipated, having only 1 - 2 bowel movements a week, which isn't healthy. In Aug. '01, I decided to try 250 mg. oral GSH daily, but within a couple days I was severely constipated. So I stopped it. So, you'll probably want to reduce Ashton's enzymes, but still watch for constipation. In CF, constipation can lead to impaction. Kim > Is anyone else here using glutathione? Guest guest
Thanks for the info. I thought I had heard that using glutathione allowed you to reduce enzymes. We are going to try it. It just seems so strange since he has always needed as many enzymes as possible!! Not that I am complaining! > > Is anyone else here using glutathione? Guest guest
, You're welcome for the info. I know one other mom who was able to reduce enzymes, and her toddler finally got on the growth charts by using oral GSH. Another thought, because Ashton is fed primarily (only?) tube feedings, you need to guard against magnesium deficiency, which eventually happens with exclusive parenteral feedings. When magnesium is low, glutathione and other critical antioxidants are reduced, causing a cascade of inflammatory problems. Just my opinion, but I think it's always best to correct problems bottom up, not top down. In other words, start at the root. So many people don't yet understand that high enzyme use + frequent daily loose bowel movements = an uniformed doctor. There are simple things such as correcting magnesium and taurine deficiencies that help tremendously, but most doctors apparently believe that now that enzymes are enteric coated, this should solve most GI problems. And if it doesn't, doctors are too quick to add prescription acid blockers, and if the child still doesn't grow, they prescribe higher fat diets (of the wrong type of fats, which worsens the problem of intestinal inflammation) and then threaten with tube feedings. Guest guest
When I wrote to Hudson about the GSH treatment and enzymes she told me that they did end up reducing the enzymes that her children had to take. Maybe that is what you should do -but I would check with the CF clinic first. glutathione and constipation Is anyone else here using glutathione? We are on the dose that that dr from Utah suggested (the one from the Today show) and Ashton (2 yrs) has been constipated. Has anyone using glutathione had this same problem? Should I just reduce his enzymes? We have always maxed out on enzymes and he is fed exclusively via g-tube so his diet is still the same. mom to Ashton, 2 yr wcf, gonna get pregnant in September using In Vitro with pre implantation genetic diagnosis
