Guest guest
Hi Ellen and Josie! I adopted all my little wonders. I did try the protocol to get my own breast milk but it was too hard on my stomach. So I use raw goat milk. I put that in his eyes and it finally kicked in when I saw him this am. He is back to seeing without guck! Thanks for all the help though! I posted here because I know Antiobiotics is NOT alowed on the diet so I was looking for alternatives and I got lots of help! One hayy mom! Cheers! Pamela > > If you're still nursing, breastmilk can do wonders to clear up eye infections! > > Good luck, > > Ellen > 8.5. y/o dd. dx'ed w. Crohn's. Guest guest
<<I posted here because I know Antiobiotics is NOT alowed on the diet>> Pamela, Antibiotics are not necessarily illegal on SCD. We do try to avoid them whenever possible, of course. Elaine knew that medications of various kinds are needed at times, and she was quick to state that we must give whatever medication the child absolutely must have, regardless of traces of illegals, if they could not be avoided. If a child needs to take antibiotics, we can take steps to try getting the medication without added starches and sugars.... and of course, keep supplementing with acidophilus and/or SCD yogurt to offset the " wipe out " effect some antibiotics can have on gut flora. Elaine has a list of antibiotics on her website that are " safer " .... in that they are not as likely to trigger overgrowth of clostridia, for example. Look on www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info , in the " Knowledge Base " , under " Clostridium Difficile " . We can always bring that list to the doctor and ask if any of the safer alternatives can be used. But, sometimes a specific infection must be treated with a med that targets that bacteria... so it's not always possible. Anyway, I just wanted to clarify that antibiotics are not " illegal " on SCD. Guest guest
Ok thanks Patti! Well it is illegal for me then! After more than 100x on it because of strep throat I can honestly say it did more harm than good! My kids will not be exposed to the stuff Like I was. My doctor feels antibiotics is WAY overused! He has good alternative ideas that made me realize antiboitics is not the only solution. Thanks! Guest guest
Pamela, I'm with YOU! I also had strep many, many, many times as a kid and had lots of problems as a result of antibiotics... including now being allergic to penicillin. Thankfully, most of the time (this was back in the '60's), I got penicillin shots, rather than taking it orally... so they did not completely wipe out my gut. Today, I avoid taking them, or giving them to my kids whenever possible.... so yeah, they are " illegal " in my personal book, too. Only used as an absolute last resort. It about killed me to have to allow them to give my daughter antibiotics after her spinal cord surgery four years ago... but no way around that one. At least they were given by IV. Just wanted to be sure no one else on the list got the message that they were technically illegal on SCD. You never know... this list is so huge... and many people read it but never post. I'm acting as a temporary moderator right now, while Sheila is on vacation, so I have to respond from that perspective. Patti Re: EYE infection for my baby going on 3 days....now both infected this Ok thanks Patti! Well it is illegal for me then! Guest guest
I may have missed something in this thread; I've been out of town. But aren't the anti-biotics given for eye infections topical (eye drops) and therefore not an issue for SCD? " I am thinking along the same lines as . When my son has had eye infections, we've been given little bottles of opthamalic antibiotic solution. And the drops go right into the eyes. (Not necessarily an easy thing to do.) But they are not swallowed. So, it should not mess the gut up like oral antibiotics. Jody mom to -7 and -9 SCD 1/
