Guest guest
Ideally, you would make a cooked fruit puree.... and freeze that. Strawberries may be too advanced... VERY difficult to strain out the tiny bits of seeds which are not very digestible. Raspberries would be better... cooked and strained through a fine sieve. Really best to use more beginner-stage fruits.... peel, cook, puree and freeze. Stay cool! We are at an unseasonably cool 14 degrees C, here in the Pacific NW, U.S. ... and wishing for some true summer weather. Patti, mom to Katera Juicing Hi everyone, My son has been scd for 8 weeks now. We have introduced things very gradually and he is only a little way into stage 2. It states that everything has to be ripe, peeled and cooked. Could I juice fruit to make ice lollies etc. ? And if so is it only the fruits that he is already on or could I use a little bit of orange or strawberry etc. Help required urgently. Unbelievably the temperature in Glasgow Scotland is 28 degrees. Thanks Elaine ( ASD 8 yrs SCD 8 weeks)
Guest guest
Elaine said that home juicing was acceptable... though she did not feel we should use fresh, raw juices right in the beginning... and not large amounts anyway, and not without diluting. I believe she felt that eating the whole fruit or veggie (minus peel and seeds) would be preferred because the fiber is needed... and you're losing that when you juice. The other nutrients become extremely concentrated. Remember.... one of the legal juices is freshly pressed apple cider... that's just the apple... squished through a press (or a home juicer). It does not necessarily have to be cooked, but DOES need to be diluted. The purpose of cooking is to soften the cell membrane in the fibrous part of the fruit/veggie. Fresh lemon and lime juice in the small quantities you'd use for recipes are fine. Patti Juicing Is juicing a food OK even if it isn't something that you would give the child at the moment in it's raw or cooked form i.e. oranges, celery, cherries...Also what about using things like lemon or lime juice in recipes...freshly squeezed, of course? Guest guest
Home juicing is fine. Elaine did not like the idea of newbies using lots of juice... because she was concerned that there is a real need for the fiber, and that the nutrients become very concentrated when you juice. She said ALWAYS dilute... and start with small amounts... and best if you've been on SCD for a while (a couple of months or longer, I would think is fine). She preferred the idea of using the WHOLE food.... peeled and cooked, of course, until further along.
