Guest guest
, When I had to go to Houston from Tennessee to see the oncologist there, I was wondering how I was going to afford it. Most large hospitals that have a lot of patients from far away and abroad have special deals with certain airlines for discounted tickets. For example..MD have a non restricted special for patients with Continental airlines...They will have you on a direct flight, for a lower than normal price, and there is no charge for cancellations or postponements, even up to the last minute... But, if they don't or you can't afford the price the hospital/airline are offering, there is Angel Flight. I went with them when I went down to MD , Houston. The pilots donate their time, plane and fuel to transport patients in need to wherever they need to go to see a medical professional. They are some of the most curteous, kindhearted and nicest people I've ever dealt with. They have a policy that the pilots travel usually no further than 300 miles per pilot/plane..so with my trip being 800 miles, I had to change pilots and planes twice going there, but I lucked out coming home...The pilot had a more powerful plane, and he took me all the way home. They don't want any money for doing this, all they ask is that sometime after your return flight, when you are up to it, is to write a letter of thanks if you feel it is due them. The only concession being that it can be a long day. Here are the details if you so wish. This link is to the Southeast angel flight service. If this is not the correct sector, they will give you the number of the right one to call... www.angel-flight.org 4620 Haygood Road, Ste. 1 Virginia Beach, VA 23455 Phone: Fax: Patients Needing Help Call 1- (local) I hope this is helpful to you...Give them a call, they will want the fax number of your PCP, so he/she can authorize that you are okay to travel, and the fax number and name of the doctor and hospital you are travelling to..it's that easy. They will get back to you within a few days of you having to leave with the details. Most times the pilots will call you also to finalize the flight plans and advise you of any changes..I would be asking for their cell phone numbers also (the pilots that is) just in case...a mistake was made with my arrangements, and luckily I got the pilot's number for when I rang him the day before, found that I was to go to the light aviation terminal, and had to be there earlier than I was originally advised..although, they will wait for you *L* If you need any other information, don't hesitate to ask me...either on this site or at my personal email address..I don't mind at all.
